It's way more complex than you might think. He just doesn't have to learn formations and plays.
I have zero expectations but I'll allow for the possibility that they can coach him up enough to be a net positive for the team. Honestly, of all the positions - I think WR is among the easiest. His size and strength could help cover up other deficiencies like route running.

And is it really so crazy to think that a grown-ass man that is fast and 6' 6" could maybe get open and snag a few passes over some 5' 9" freshman playing for UNI or Northern Illinois? It's not like he's going to match-up against Patrick Peterson.
Pretty much no one is saying he can't play. The reaction here was a backlash to the collective shorts creaming from idiots who think he could be Calvin Johnson.
Correct.

I actually believe he could be a very good player. But we may not see much of it at Iowa. If he had a redshirt year, then 2 years to play, I'd feel more comfortable with higher expectations. But route running isn't easy. Learning to block out there will probably be his biggest challenge. Even a 5'9 dude can defend a 6'8 guy (isn't he 6'8?) if the receiver hasn't figured out the complexities of route running.

I think he's better off putting on 20 and playing TE.

Not even could be, but IS going to be Calvin Johnson.

I didn’t see that. Thought that was some Iowa scribe space whacking about his potential.

Maybe there are some random twitter crazies I didn't see but otherwise it's pretty much just Dochterman yeah.

This would be my guess but I wouldn't be stunned it was even 6'5". Which is still super tall for a WR.

We're not talking about a fatso coming out of retirement or an undersized HS kid making the move to CFB. He's a well-conditioned B10 athlete who has already settled into school (as Thomas mentioned above). If he makes the move to football, I think he has a chance to contribute. It ain't brain surgery.

Isn’t Tony flunking TV?

That’s a tough class, you know they don’t just watch the tube.

So, iowa wants Wagner, but at TE. right now he wants to play WR, so it’s not a done deal, but things are looking pretty strong for him staying at iowa.

Another interesting comment, iowa thinks that both TEs might leave early for NFL after this year. I would think that hockenson would want a year to be the man, but I guess the league is already fully aware of him.

How many years of eligibility would he have left?

I have no idea who the guys are, but this is pretty great:
We've got some pretty good dudes here.
KCRG retweeted this guy, I didn't get it from the (awful) account he referenced.

The advantage of purchasing a season ticket is an $80 savings over the cost of single game tickets. Season ticket holders earn ticketing priority over the general public for single game, special events, and postseason contests. Individual game ticket prices include $50 for Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa, $65 for Maryland and Northwestern, $75 for Nebrantska, and $95 for Iowa State and Wisconsin. The average single game cost for a season ticket holder is $59.29.

“Our pricing structure and ticket packages provide Hawkeye fans the opportunity to select the games they wish to attend through a number of options. We anticipate a high demand for the premium games on our schedule.”
Hmm.

Yep. I realize AJ is like Michael Strahan and Deacon Jones all rolled into one player, but perhaps we should wait to see how this shakes out this fall. I'm sure AJ, his dad, and the coaches have a much better grip on the situation that Joe Sweatpants in his LazyBoy* has.

Sounds more and more like if his workouts go well and he is open to playing TE that they will find a scholarship for him after spring ball is done.

Fant for sure and possibly Hockenson will be going pro. Playing time at TE might be more open for his last year of eligibility.

Wagner will score a TD in the first few games of the season. Hawkeye faithful will go nuts. He will then disappear for several games. Torches will be lit.

sounds like the Iowa coaches have been trying to get him to play football for a long time. That makes me feel better of the likelihood of him transitioning well.

You're trying to will this to happen, aren't you? Is the Hawkeye fan base as dumb as you think? Wait, don't answer that. ;)

Bell has been tweeting at him to play football for like two years now at least, and I assume there's been more in private.

That fact that Wagner may be leaning towards playing football and Iowa is confusing to me. Last I checked Iowa City is within CMCs radius

At Pro day today Bower ran a faster 40 than Jewell and Niemann. Also .01 faster than James Butler.

If anyone needed another reason to show that Kirk Ferentz is about as class of an act that anyone could ask for, the story that James Daniels shared today was great.

He said that he hadn't even thought much about the NFL and it was Ferentz that called him in his office and suggested that he thought he had a great chance to go high and they should seek out the feedback. Daniels said that was fine and when Ferentz got the feedback he called him and his parents and encouraged them to leave early as his chance of going in the first round was high.

Not often that you have a coach like that who easily could have talked him into staying another year that goes out of his way to encourage him to leave early because it was the best thing for Daniels as a person and player.

He also seemed to catch himself but at the same time imply he knew what Wagner is going to do and sounded positive for Iowa.

What did he say, I couldn't get it to play
Basically that Wagner was a stud in high school playing against the top talent in the state of Ohio and that the Hawks could definitely use him.
Said that the team Wagner’s squad played in the state title game was one of the best in the country. Beat Daniels’ team 35-0 in a scrimmage. That Wagner took back the opening kickoff on them.

Reese Morgan is talking to the media now, most notable thing so far is that Gholston is playing DT now due to the lack of depth there relative to DE
