Wouldn’t mind seeing Fran make some staff adjustments like what Kirk has done lately. Francis is the only one that likely wants to move up the coaching ranks, but apparently nobody else wants him. So here we are.

I am guessing that soup has just lost his motivation over the years, probably a combination of wear and tear plus something personal. It happens to a lot of people.

He coached with Seth Wallace previously who probably vouched for him.

Look at Iowa with the four straight home games in September. I can't recall that ever happening. Very Nebraskalike.

looks like the 2012 team had four straight home games in September, although they weren't the first five games since they opened with a neutral site game (with probably 30k Iowa fans) in Chicago. the 2001 season played exclusively home games in September, but it was only three games since the Iowa State game was moved to November due to 9-11. the 1986 team also played exclusively home games in September, but they only played three games.

That's an expensive and exhausting September for season ticket holders.

I found this interesting. Iowa's all-time recruits since the beginning of 247 rankings, which is almost an exact overlap of the KF years. I just looked at the 4-star and above that make up the top 40 recruits. A lot of mixed results in there:

https://iowa.247sports.com/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruits

Upon additional review, 7 of the top 52 recruits are in the 2018 class. And 3 of the top 44 are already committed for the 2019 class. Obviously, the mixed reviews suggest this is not a guarantee, but recruiting has had a little uptick as far as rankings at the top of the classes.

In fairness, Coe, Derby and Wegher all did or still are floating around NFL rosters. Talent was there.

I wouldn’t count it just yet. Kirk’s style allows us to stay in games with teams like Penn State, but also allows teams like OPEN DATE to stick around longer than they should.

Guys, I don't think OPEN DATE is actually an opponent, I think it's a week where Iowa doesn't have a game scheduled.

They just didn't want to call it "at Illinois" twice?

I think Coker was lowkey the second best back of the Ferentz era after Greene and had a chance to be an all timer. His sophomore year was really good. He was like impossible to tackle for a loss and showed flashes of big play ability, especially in that Insight bowl his freshman year. If you ever want to feel sad imagine the 2013 team with him instead of Weisman.

Wisconsin seems like a pretty obvious loss to me right now too but otherwise this seems right. Hopefully this is Brohm's last year at Purdue. I could see Louisville bottoming out without Lamar and deciding Petrino isn't worth the trouble, and Brohm would be the most obvious candidate there

I think they knew that but were just trying to make a joke.

Wisconsin returns 10 starters on offense. That is terrifying with 3 new linebackers considering 2 of the linebackers Iowa lost were 2 of the best to play their respective positions in Kirk’s tenure if not Iowa history.

Iowa’s D line should be pretty fucking good and will be able to compensate for new linebackers.

Unless Iowa tries to protect their linebackers by playing more contain like they did in 2010.

Yeah they bring back the entire oline and probably the second best RB in the country. They're gonna be really good again, and I still don't think we'll be able to do much against them offensively

Though there does seem to be a concern that most of the returning backers are stiffs. Niemann and Welch need to have really good springs. Amani Jones apparently needs to exhibit some grasp of the defense. But... It does sound like they'd like to drop down a spare safety in some situations.

Wadley seems to be doing pretty well:

Akrum Wadley/RB/Iowa: Wadley wowed scouts on hand Wednesday with his ability to make quick cuts and maintain speed when changing direction. His pass-catching ability has been extremely impressive, and he quickly transitions to picking up yardage after the catch. He's shifty in the hole and uses his lack of height to his advantage, staying behind his blocks until the last second before quickly cutting into the hole.
