2015 ia recruiting class Christian williams, dale jones , brandon hutton, Andrew fleming, wagner and moss, 1 left of a 6 man class, yuck
Hutton was by far the biggest disappointment to me in that class. Williams looked good offensively on video, but we had some decent offensive talent (or thought we did) at the time; I was surprised Fran kept after him so long. I don't recall anyone not being excited about landing Hutton. He was a Chicago area kid, he looked like a terrific athlete and a beast on defense--something we needed then and still need now--and we "beat" Wisconsin to sign him at a time when they were riding high. That class was almost a complete bust, apart from Moss, who alternates between outstanding and missing in action, and Wagner, who played hard and sometimes very well on defense, but overall was only an occasional contributor.

Fran now has a chance to rebuild the roster somewhat. I hope he makes the most of the opportunity this time.

The 2014 and 2015 classes were near coach killers. The good news is that Fran has recovered ever since then.

Cook, bohannon, Garza, Nunge, Connor and Wieskamp all are either confirmed good players or should end up being. The jury is out still on Pemsl, Kreiner and Dailey, but they look so much better than any of the junk in the 2014 and 2015 classes and should be solid role players on some level.

Iowa and Fran should have a nice turnaround coming up. Hopefully they are aggressive and grab a difference maker in the spring.

I doubt Wagner stays to play football here. He’s probably a year away from contributing and I doubt Kirk is going to use a scholarship for 2 years to get maybe 1 out of Wagner.

I bet he ends up somewhere like Akron.
Cincinnati is my guess. Maybe Miami (oh) or Ohio.

Hypothetical, if we don’t use Wagner’s ride in hoops next year and he joins the football team, could he retain his hoops scholarship or would he still have to count against the football allotment? Or both?

I honestly can’t think of any case that’s precedent since the new mandatory four year rides came into effect. I guess my question is, do we for sure need an open football ride?

I believe it would count against football

Yeah I was way off on Hutton. If he had been an Eric May level player he would have made a big difference.

He averaged 4 points per game this year at Northwestern State.

So much for Fran's grand Chicago experiment. Thank goodness he bailed on Cook County after 2015. Many careers have fallen into the black hole of the Chicago sucubus.

Cracks me up when dipshits watch the tourney and “way more athletic than us!!!”

You’d think our 2015 class would have taught them a lesson that there is more to hoops that athletic ability and/or skin color.

You'd think after watching this past season certain people would realize athleticism counts for something.

Unless he's still thinking about who is more wholesome and I'm an idiot.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

I read it as he's still thinking and unable to come up with anyone. Nothing cryptic about it.

Well, that's one of the names I was told during the season. There was one other, but his comments have indicated he's probably not leaving (though they obviously might have some unexpected departures to deal with).
The other thing I heard along with those names is that the staff had put together a list of Juco & grad transfer prospects to target, so here. we. go!
Thank you @Nobody. These are pretty valuable insights.
:icon_lol:

I know, it's incredibly vague and something we all would've been able to figure out. I'd love to be more specific, but do not ever want to burn this source - they're legit as good as it gets. I can't remember which game thread I posted it in, but there was a plan in place during the season to change some roles and then push out at least two guys at the end of the season. One has happened and the other has not, so I don't want to start a shitstorm in case he or his family might read this site. Wagner fell under the role change category, which he accepted during the season, but there obviously wasn't a path forward to have a significant role next year.

Gotta tip the cap to Wagner and Ellingson for being classy about this. Fran has this under control. Kakert’s BS made it seem like the wheels were falling off 10 days ago.

Skimming through the HR podcast. Kakert thinks more are leaving but not Nunge, bohannon, Garza and obviously Baer and Connor. Thinks Kriener back also. Leaves Pemsl, Dailey and Moss. Said he thinks the other guys are fence sitting but if it happens it will be soon and not drag out.

Kind of a dumb observation, but it's good to see today. No disrespect toward Wagner or Brady, but as a fan I'm happy to see Fran have it in him to make some moves. He is obviously a players' coach and it kills him to sit someone on the bench, much less show guys the door in a fashion. But this season was horrible - something had to change. Our roster imbalance needs to be addressed. And we need to find players that will be a net positive. He looks ready to make it happen. Hopefully a juco or transfer can work out for next season, but bank one or two if not.

One other thought - it may just be possible that Cook is more likely to come back with the changes in the works.

Kakert is just throwing darts again. Most people on here seem to think it is possible more leave and have mentioned Pemsl and Dailey. Kakert doesn’t know shit.

He claims all the info he was given has come true at this point and thinks Cook will stay in the draft, Pemsl is on the fence and was cryptic about the other 2, specifically Moss.

Of course that dipshit claims that he is right. If he was said the info he was given was false he would lose what little credibility he has left. Some of these guys that cover Iowa athletics are the biggest morons around.

This is Randy Petersen level embarrassing. It isn't even reporting, it is literally trying to will a fantasy to happen. What a pathetic loser.

Frankly, it’s mutually beneficial for Wagner to play wide receiver at Iowa. The Hawkeyes have a need at split end, and both the football staff and Wagner know each other well. Wagner could finish earning his degree, work with the team right now and compete for snaps this spring. If it doesn’t work out after this fall, he could always leave as a graduate transfer for his final season.

Wagner is a physical presence with high character and solid leadership qualities. He competed against terrific athletes in the post and often held his own. He has a chance to begin something special as a receiver in college and perhaps enhance his qualities professionally. Former college basketball players such as Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates turned into All-Pro tight ends. Former Penn State forward Ross Travis switched sports after his basketball career and became an NFL tight end. Even former Western Kentucky forward George Fant turned into a starting NFL tackle with the Seattle Seahawks.

Those examples show Wagner he can switch from decent basketball player to upper-level football player. Now he has two years left to prove it.
