There was no reason that Fran should have kept feeding him minutes year after year when he was fucking terrible.

I actually don't even think you can really criticize Fran for Ellingson at this point.

He was hurt his first year and played 35 minutes and got a medical redshirt. The second year he barely played in Big Ten games and they were 11-3 in the games he did play in. He didn't play in 6 of the last 8 games of the year and when he did it was 1 minute and 5 minutes. The third year he actually had a decent season playing 14 mpg and shooting 48% from three. Last year he was forced into playing out of position and then Fran cut him loose.

Nothing really wrong with any of that at this point.

When he was doing those stupid fucking hockey line shift rotations the second unit was always geared entirely around getting Ogelsby three point looks and, not coincidentally, it was fucking horrible. I can't think of anyone who got talked up more as a three point specialist while being so awful from three.

It was literally 3 guys standing and setting screens while Josh ran the baseline over and over and the guy at the top waiting for him to get open. When he finally did he would pump fake, step in and take a long 2.

He did throw a sweet alley oop to Gabe at Wisconsin though.

I’m not saying he didn’t suck overall. But his freshman year was pretty decent, as was his junior year. That’s why his senior year was so disappointing. I never even said that his career overall was anything but shitty.

Obviously he had his problems offensively, but did turn himself into a good defender. He would have easily been the best perimeter defender on this 2017-2018 team and for defensive reasons alone I probably would have tolerated him alongside a scoring PG like JBo. The teams he played on did not get much scoring from the PG position so he turned the backcourt into a scoring black hole.

I know Campbell showed up a bunch in the 2019 recruiting thread, but because he reclassified to 2018 I'm throwing this in here. Feel bad for the players, but if it could happen to any coach I'm glad it happened to Steve Alford. It would be great if he gets fired this year and another coach enjoys success with these guys next season.
