He let his kids get in the way of that.If Fran didn't break through with four future NBA players on the roster, he ain't breaking through with what he's going to get going forward.
He let his kids get in the way of that.
Fran’s Big Ten record is much better than his relative recruiting ranking in the same time frame, so you kind of have to decide whether you think he’s good at developing players or an amazing coach.View attachment 53524
counterpoint : our recruiting and development have NOT been particularly strong, ever under Fran
he consistently recruits and develops the exact same type of player over and over and over

I think he’s great at evaluating and identifying talent.Fran’s Big Ten record is much better than his relative recruiting ranking in the same time frame, so you kind of have to decide whether you think he’s good at developing players or an amazing coach.
He is great teaching offensive concepts and developing offensive skill.I think he’s great at evaluating and identifying talent.
interesting point.you kind of have to decide whether you think he’s good at developing players or an amazing coach.
Fran started with absolute dogshit while Davis started with a roster that had 7 NBA players and 2 or 3 others that played in the CBA.interesting point.
looked it up ; fran has overall I am a giant douche record of 136-128 (.515)
for comps, alford was 61-67 (.477)
the good dr was 126 - 104 (.548)
so Fran is a bit over .500 - which aint doghit... but he also benefitted from having the POY, the #4 pick in the NBA draft, another first rounder, etc. on the same team
was that the result of good recruiting? i would argue frans most heralded recruiting strength is finding 'diamonds in the rough ' (like Garza) but he basically got lucky with the murrays. Weezy was going to be a hawk no matter who the coach was
so was it great development from fran? maybe? sure seems though his coaching fell short in terms of tournament success
this is stupid. Fran is either a bad coach or a bad recruiter. It cannot be both.View attachment 53524

Not with that attitude.this is stupid. Fran is either a bad coach or a bad recruiter. It cannot be both.
He's good at finding underrated guys and developing them into solid Big Ten players (on one side of the ball). He's good at getting more from less. He's not good at identifying pgs or landing studs.honest question - does anybody think fran is a good recruiter?
i'd say he's not lousy... but i've never heard his recruiting talents being referenced as a particular strength of his. maybe i missed something, don't know.
compare that to 'ol pizza face at isu, where his recruiting constantly is hyped as a major differentiator
You don’t seem to think he’s good at anything.honest question - does anybody think fran is a good recruiter?

His arms have gotten smaller.
LFrans best developmental work was Olaseni and Perkins.
perkins had zero other high major offers and as a freshman appeared to have started playing the game within the last 12 months.L

He ended it like he started.perkins had zero other high major offers and as a freshman appeared to have started playing the game within the last 12 months.
He was destined to be Pat Ingram. About 10% of Frans players have tried all the time. Garza and White might be the 10%.L

The development ain't great if you can't make him try all the time.
I’d prolly say Garza, White, Marble, etc. Perkins was always a springy guy who wanted to compete. Fran never conquered the whole “Tony, stop being a faggot” thing.Frans best developmental work was Olaseni and Perkins.
I’m not saying Fran gets zero credit for those guys. Garza busted his ass every day training. White got better but he was basically good from his first game at Iowa when he scored I believe 18.I’d prolly say Garza, White, Marble, etc. Perkins was always a springy guy who wanted to compete. Fran never conquered the whole “Tony, stop being a faggot” thing.
Fran turned that guy into a 4 year starter.
By God, they’re playing his music! Can't shoot, doesn't distribute, is tiny.
She’s 6’0.So basically Paige Buekers playing mens’ ball.
