SMSU is one of the worst D2 programs in the country. This dude would be a diamond in the no-mow.

He's stacking offers. Started with smaller schools, then the North Texas and JMU types and now Minnesota and Iowa have offered.

If we’re talking WR…due to the damage Kirk allowed Brian to cause, that’s probably our level of recruiting competition at the moment until we can string together another couple decent years of offensive performance
Correct. In the meantime, any studs we get will have to be diamonds in the rough or yokels.

Betts did a great job keeping the RB room together for one more year. Makes sense that guys lower on the chart are now bolting.

Now need to hope that the speculation of Moulton leaving isn’t true for depth purposes.

Always loved watching Jazz. Seemed as talented as any on the team at the position

If Moulton leaves they’ll have to go into the portal for a running back.

Jazzs playing time always confused me. He deserved 10ish carries a game. 80% of his runs he would fly through the line then either trip over his own feet or a desperate ankle tackle that would result in a 6 yard run that could have gone for much more.

I've never seen a guy on the verge of breaking more huge runs cut down by a shoelace. I think the only one he ever got was at Iowa State as a freshman.

So far, not a single guy has been unexpected and I would argue (outside of Dakin) all of them were likely encouraged in the best of ways to move on for more playing time.

Visiting Wisconsin and potentially Georgia (lofl?)
With as many players that enter the portal, anyone with a name from a large school seems to immediately draw the stupid money and visits no matter how good they actually are. Sama seems incredibly mediocre outside a single fluke game in the snow. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but he's always seemed pretty unremarkable.

There has got to be a decent number of really good players that simply get overlooked and being able to sift through them and find the diamonds going to be more important until this shit goes away.

Didn't feel like he had been here three years, in an underwhelming sense.

Brian Allen to the portal. That’s too bad even though he never seemed to realize his potential or fully earn the staff’s trust.
I was just about to say that as well, flashy in camp but overall mediocre in games.

That one makes no sense but I guess there were rumors they would lose some defensive ends.

He always seemed to be the guy in the backfield running past the play

I feel like I remember Kelvin Bell having several comments referring to the light coming on, consistency in approach, etc.

That is correct. You could always tell Kelvin Bell seemed frustrated with him. I think the year he had a big Kid's Day he got annoyed by all the questions about him playing.

He's been here 4 years, not 3 years.....

Allen showed his serious side when talking about his development as an Iowa football player, on and off the field.

He was very candid in saying that had to grow up and accept responsibility when he came to college.

He didn’t make excuses for his early growing pains and he credits Iowa defensive line coach Kelvin Bell for being the kind of disciplinarian that he needed, much like Allen’s mother was to him while growing up.

“My dad worked a lot and my mom was like the primary disciplinarian,” Allen said. “(Coach Bell) been the primary disciplinarian in that aspect. He and my momma.

“Him and all the other coaches, they let me know that they believed in me, but they needed me to get on the straight and narrow for me to be in this program and be successful. And I knew when I came here that was an area that I needed to be better in, just maturity and responsibility, all of that. So they’ve done their job in that aspect with me.”

In now his fourth season as a Hawkeye, Allen could have easily transferred from Iowa in this age of the transfer portal.

But he has chosen to stay the course and he takes pride in that decision, believing that it’s part of what makes the Iowa culture under Kirk Ferentz special.

“It says something about our coaching staff and it says something about the men and the players that KF (Kirk Ferentz) tries to build,” Allen said. “It’s tough, but I’m not going to avoid adversity. I’m going to try and fight through it as much as I can.

“It’s hard to stay patient. You want to play, third, fourth year in the program, you think you’re ready for the moment, you think you’re ready for the moment. But it’s just a matter of keeping your head low. You’ve got to keep working because the work doesn’t stop. It’s just a matter of putting yourself in a position off the field, on the field, physically, emotionally, whatever you can do to be in the best position for whenever my number is called. and then I can the plays that I need to make.”
