Putting on the "sage for Lee" hat (IOW,talking out of my ass because there's nothing riding on it), he does kinda look like maybe a poor man's CDJ . I do wonder how much Coop looked like the can't miss Superman after his junior FB year, though. We'll see if he does anything in track.
Being a linebacker prospect, he naturally won't have quite corner speed and fluidity. Can he make 230-40 without becoming a different athlete? A slightly more athletic Ben Niemann would be a good thing, too. Ben was a good high school WR-safety and was gonna play WR at Northern Illinois.
We really been fortunate to have a few variations on the Cooper prototype in the last classes. Lutmer was mentioned, and he's really starting to live up to it. Not quite as fast, smooth and natural, but he continues to show more speed and playmaking ability all the time.
RVZ is the tall guy version. His only HS "failing" was not winning a 110HH or high jump title to do the Cooper trifecta. Preston Ries was the strong guy version. Played QB, dunked, extra heartbeat guy. Still hasn't done it on the field, though, except for special teams.
This year's candidate: Brody Schaffer. Smaller town QB, DB, made nice returns. Supposed 4.46 at Iowa camp.
Switching gears a bit, I'd like to know if Dylan Stecker has done any cool stuff on scout team this fall or in bowl prep. Can't be a Cooper prototype because he didn't play QB, but he showed some RVZ traits as a prep. He and Apollo Payne may bear some watching in the spring as walk-ons, along with Terrence Smith.
