Correct. Charitable doesn't actually mean anything about helping poor people or doing some sort of good.

This stuff is stupid, but it's also not like your donations to the zoo or the civic center or whatever are actually doing anything for "charity" either.
I mean assuming your definition of charitable includes what you said earlier - doing some sort of good - i would disagree with this.

The idea that we as a program are completely powerless to make this better is a bit defeatist. Kirk may not be the guy to best navigate this, but Iowa is a program with top 20ish resources and a very good game day experience. Keeping a defense run by Phil and his protégés and finding a young up and coming mind to completely revamp the offense would do fucking wonders in terms of our appeal to current and prospective talent, imo. We’d be a clear tier 2 destination right below the true blue bloods. Which is better than where we’ve sat for most of my life.

I'm not giving a single penny to these athletes. Ever.

Fuck them. I used to live with a couple Iowa football players. Even in the late 90's and early 00's when they didn't have the facilities or training table craziness or a ton of the perks they have now, 95% of them were still treated better than they ever deserved.

They don't need your money. If some other asshole wants to give to them, fine, but I'm not sending $100 a month or $250 or $1000 so Teegan and Sebastian can have more money to blow at the Coral Ridge Mall.
Well, not counting all the drinks and meals you used to cover for Rob Thein back in your 'Liner days.

LOL at all of you being all "Iowa's too good for this! I won't be a part of *shudder* paying players!"

Do you cough up for game tickets? Jerseys? Posters? Dumb little stuffed Herkys for your kids so they'll grow up Hawkeyes too? Then, congratulations, you already pay players. Get over yourselves - this is the new reality of college football, and if you want Iowa to not suck y'all need to get right with the fact that college football is now a semi-pro league where loyalty is bought. Pandora opened the box, and it isn't closing back up anytime soon.

If anything, NIL will probably end up a great equalizer for programs like Iowa, who now can start slush funds and create untold numbers of fuck-off sinecure jobs for athletes in exactly the same way the SEC has for decades now without the threat of the NCAA shutting down the program. The only thing that needs to change is the pissy Boomer "well, we didn't pay you back in my day, when our teachers pistol-whipped us with their dicks in class daily! These youth could use a good dick-whipping every now and again! It built character!" attitude. Fuck you. "Win, graduate, do it right" involves paying players now, so shut the fuck up and get to the business of outbidding everyone else.

I, for one, am perfectly happy to cough up to stupid shit like the Swarm so that Iowa doesn't suck. The rest of you may goatse yourselves in the sculpture park as you await the convenience of my average-sized schlong. Your weeping and gnashing of teeth only brings Iowa closer to becoming Iowa State East, an increasingly shrunken and irrelevant pack of deluded insular malcontents. Get with the program, ladies. Choo, choo; hawk hawk hawk.

It's not going to be NIL collectives. Within 2-3 years players are going to be paid actual salaries and stars will have normal endorsements. The Big Ten and SEC will force it through.

what I was saying about a year ago. fuck it. just make them all university employees, and if they want to use their salary to pay for classes, ok. if they don't, then they don't.

i’ll consider it when Brian is gone and an acceptable replacement is installed (not Budamyr)
This is pretty much where I am at as well. I will donate. But not until Brian is another program’s burden, and Spencer is not allowed to touch the football. Officially.

I’m starting to think the reason Proctor left up his commitment tweet to Iowa and didn’t officially announce he was switching until today was to keep his Jeep as long as possible. Once he announced he wasn’t coming to Iowa they asked for his keys back which he returned this afternoon.

This is all so dumb.

That and he was/is too much of a pussy to have a difficult conversation with the Iowa staff.

Appears he’s not getting much good parental guidance with this process.

His mom looks like Honey Boo Boo's mom. Apparently wants to use him for her financial gain just like the other shitty mom. Huh. Shocker that would come from that side of Des Moines.

Fuck all of these groveling faggots and their trashy sycophantic families. Hopefully NIL pushes these HS recruits and the porta-tards into choosing a college where they flame out, get portaled over, and whiff on the chance to play professionally. The vast majority will obviously squander their little payday cuz they and/or their families are dipshits.

So, in summary, fuck them, I hope they fail and they will.

a couple of years ago I would have said you are taking this a little hard.

now, carry on. In fact, recruit like minded people. This is what the kids asked for. Welcome to the real world.

just wait until the first lucrative NIL deal comes the requirement to shave points.

NILs are going to look a lot different in a few years. The ROI is going to be fucking terrible in most cases and I’d make a decent wager that Proctor will become a cautionary tale for NILs paying obscene amounts of money for genetic freaks who abused players half their size in HS. Additionally, the NCAA will impose restrictions and close loopholes.

Of course college football will change behind the scenes but lol that it’s “dead”. It’s football. Everyone here is still going to watch even if they hate the business side of it.

Some serious whiplash here from a week or two ago when Brian was guaranteed gone, Portal Kirk, etc. and everyone was beating themselves raw to this current state of despair. I’m about a million times more disgusted by the Ferentz family business than I am about some players getting paid.

None of that shit is going to happen. The only people that matter when it comes to paying players are the heavy hitters. Johnny 20 Bucks can give to the collective but it doesn't move the needle. The wealthy have money to burn, and spare me the bullshit about how they didn't get to be wealthy by wasting money!

ROI doesn't really matter to rich dudes that just want to get their names on stuff.

And the NCAA isn't going to impose anything.

Want to bet re: the NCAA? They’ve already made changes from the first year of NILs. They have millions at stake.

You don’t seem to understand how it works. Do you think they get handed bags of cash? That’d be a direct NCAA violation. They actually have to do shit for the money. Maybe not commensurate with their compensation but that’s a different argument. A lot of that work isn’t for billionaires but for local businesses who are relying on their investments to pay dividends.

Extend your logic to professional sports. Do lots of millionaires and corporations help the Bears with their budget just because they’re fans? No. They pay money in exchange for sponsorship deals and marketing opportunities. There is always something in it for them and if the kids become a bad investment, 7 figures becomes 6 figures and so on down the line. The market isn’t set yet.

The NCAA is an organization that is reactive vs proactive, and the following years will reflect that.

I understand how it works. Money wins, even if the current rules disallow it. Maybe you don't understand how it works.
