Are there any other WR or OL in the portal, who didn’t slice up other human beings, that we are pursuing?

Give me a defense that is 90% as good as we had this year and an offense that is 25% better than this year and that's a recipe for success and not at all far fetched.

I assume the D-2 kid will go to Iowa State.

I have a feeling we're on the phone with coach Bladt right now to see what he has coming thru the pipeline.

The transfer portal reminds me of Amazon Prime Day lightning deals except WAY more fun

I think that ultimately the unintended consequence of this will be to hurt a lot of kids too. By turning this into a pure pay for play operation, there's going to be less loyalty. Most respectable schools have historically kept kids on scholly who don't play, get injured, etc. They did that to protect their reputations.

Now, it's going to be more like Prime's speech today. Injured? Not good enough? Sorry. Now GTFO! I got money to pay someone who can.

I think that part of it will grate on the Kirk's of the world.
the big ten still has rules about scholarships.

I'm not crying over Jacobs because a) he could never stay healthy and wasn't all that great when he was and b) Iowa is going to be very desirable for some transfer portal LB's
Bull. Shit.

He was pretty great. And you absolutely thought so when he played.

You don’t get to use “we didn’t want him anyway” When you had him, he played really well, you jizzed all over yourself for his talent, then he decides he’d rather play elsewhere.

I feel like we have some liars and scumbags in our midst. I'd like a refund on my premium membership please.

The fantasy was fun for a week though.

Lol at academic and/or character issues. You know Traeshon was not our strongest student, if it wasn't for his penchant for cutting others and threatening his teammates he really had some potential here.
Maybe Iowa City would be a good change of scenery for him, Kirk.

Donating to this shit is going to end up being every bit as stupid as donating to your favorite political candidate, but a lot of people just have that money to burn.

I hope they get some reasonable rules in place soon, or the fun of college athletics is going to disappear faster than Rolo after another colossally stupid take.

Obviously every Iowa fan would rather have Jacobs but the idea of the 6'5" monster linebacker that could run was more fantasy than reality. Maybe it was injuries but he ended up being fairly slow and kind of rigid.

I wish I had the kind of money it will apparently take to buy a championship program at the P5 level. Sadly I'm just a fan/alum that suffers like everyone else.

This has been the easiest thing in the world to predict.
Doesn't matter, anyone who tried to speak up at the beginning was shouted down as they hate the poor lil ole D1 athletes and their inability to make side cash in addition to their mountains of scholarship money and benefits.
Hey, blame people that LOL'd this shit and said it wouldn't be any big deal. I think our bald friend F&B was one of them.
This is going to end up being the mother of all nothingburgers.
I agree. The NCAA is just a conduit doing the bidding of the schools, which is exactly their charter. They aren’t above criticism, but let’s face it: any org with that task is going to get ripped by fans and the dumb people in the industry of supplying them content.

As for NIL, I just don’t see a big market. Sure, some yahoo car dealer in Oklahoma City or insurance douche in Athens will blow his wad on this in the early days, causing everyone to freak out, but once things settle it’s not going to be huge. The Tyler Goodson’s of the world will end up picking up a few bucks, and good for them. But as for competitive balance, I don’t see this as a long term game changer.

We’ll see.
If a player can make a few bucks doing ads for the local car dealership, then go for it.

It's certainly more manageable than having schools trying to pay some athletes but not others.
no one here is arguing otherwise. in fact, it’s exactly because I don’t think most of these guys are worth much $ on their own that I don’t mind these rules. the market can sort itself out. for example, Jordan bohannon, longtime NCAA victim, just got $200 to sign autographs outside a fireworks store in Windsor fucking Heights.

But you keep throwing tantrums wanting them to be taxed on scholarships or wanting lawyers over a raffle.

This thread is going to end up being hilariously sad.

Then add in Petras and Brian coming back and it sets us up for a fabulous recipe of more of the same.

Petras will outplay McNamara in practice, because he "knows the playbook. That's my assessment."

We've been told our offense and playbook is tough to learn and can take a couple years.

Spencer knows the playbook and he's a practice all-american.

How could Kirk pass on a 4th year starter? He's EARNED it
