I’m curious what these NIL deals look like. Are they incentive-laden? Guaranteed? Do they get paid in full upfront or on installment? I can't imagine the typical 18 year old with a million burning a hole in their pocket is going to make the best decisions. Also, from a team aspect, I'd imagine it might cause a few rifts. Imagine if Iowa still had some redass killers on the line and Kadyn Proctor, who has done really nothing to this point, walked in the door as a newly minted millionaire.I often have trouble processing paradigm shifts, but it seems dumb to affiliate these players with a “school” anymore. What’s the point? It’s absurd. “Yes, we’re paying him $3m/yr but he’s outta here if he doesn’t get that Econ grade up.”
the cognitive dissonance, it burns us!
Football players on scooters will be a distant memory. Scooters are still cool, though.I curious what these NIL deals look like. Are they incentive-laden? Guaranteed? I’ll never forget that video of Josh Koeppel getting destroyed on a scooter and popping right back upFootball players on scooters will be a distant memory. Scooters are still cool, though.

There has to be some rules that allow for predictability. I don’t see how that can be done in the confines of the NCAAI’m generally a “It’ll work itself out” kind of person, but the fundamental elements of big time “college” athletics after this change may be irreconcilable in my feeble mind.
This is where I see the problem.I curious what these NIL deals look like. Are they incentive-laden? Guaranteed? Do they get paid in full upfront or on installment? Usually that's a death sentenceHis shoe went 30 feet in the air
Is there an avenue for players like DeJean to approach the Iowa collective? This is where I see the problem.
How do you explain to a guy like Cooper DeJean that the WR from Alabama is going to get more than he does?
At that point, why waste money on players coming in as freshmen that are just going to leave in a year or two?As it stands today, if you’re a for sure P5 level player you probably should use the portal once to git all you can git
I'm assuming like Keegan JohnsonIs there an avenue for players like DeJean to approach the Iowa collective?
Pretty sure DeJean got a pretty good sponsorship deal from Midwest One Bank. This is where I see the problem.

If you have the means that’s what I’d expect the top dogs to do in addition to the top 5-10 hs kids in each class. At that point, why waste money on players coming in as freshmen that are just going to leave in a year or two?
And a nice Jeep from a car dealership, all before he ever took a snap. He’s doing just fine.Pretty sure DeJean got a pretty good sponsorship deal from Midwest One Bank.
You have to keep signing full classes even at P5 level, because no team is going to be immune to guys hitting the portal. You can’t sign 10, portal 10 and lose 5 every year.I could see a place like Ohio st/Alabama sign ~ 10 hs kid & 10 portal guys every year.
At Iowa probably more like 15 hs/5 portal on average
I understand that but thank youYou have to keep signing full classes even at P5 level, because no team is going to be immune to guys hitting the portal. You can’t sign 10, portal 10 and lose 5 every year.
Exactly. Instead coaches will do a nice house Creaning every year to open up spots when portal season comes a calling. You have to keep signing full classes even at P5 level, because no team is going to be immune to guys hitting the portal. You can’t sign 10, portal 10 and lose 5 every year.
This is essentially Fran’s stance. Not throwing $250k at a kid in the portal when he has a potential AA sitting on his team currently making way less. This is where I see the problem.

The difficulty is that there are no F’n rules with this.Is there an avenue for players like DeJean to approach the Iowa collective?
@ditd can you confirm? The difficulty is that there are no F’n rules with this.
The way it’s being done at some other programs; the “collective” is essentially divided among all the players. Then when coach has a transfer or recruit they want to land….they’re calling up a booster and saying “hey, how about doing an NIL deal for this guy?”
3rd parties get involved and help hammer out details of the contract. The issue that arises is that currently, the “rule” for these deals is absolutely non-existent. Technically, they have to provide “something” in return, but there is no guidance on what/how much and zero oversight from the NCAA.
Kirk calls up Mr Hawk and says “hey, we really want to keep KP. Need a million bucks.” Mr Hawk says sweet, here’s the million. Have him make 3 posts on Halo each month.” And we’re done.
Good point.Quit signing Nike deals for one
Well I've always called them the Oregon ButtpiratesThis is like the wild West when the internet was invented, and MP3's could freely enter the portal and transfer themselves to your hard drive.
That BLOWWWWSSSS
It will be like the Yankees but on steroids. The only hope is that it pulls back a little bit over the next few years when teams don't perform to the expectations of the money being spent. So these big money schools are just going to pick through everyone roster year after year? This shits gonna get old real quick.
