Idk. I guess no. I’d be fine with it but I like Kirk a lot and am not anxious to see him go. I don’t think it’ll be impossible to have a successful hire but it’s also not some sure thing.

i was 9 when he was hired. He’s really the only Iowa coach I’ve ever known

I think it's time, but it's fine if he wants to stay for a couple more years. He's earned it.
I agree. But choosing his replacement this spring or in 2 years is the single most important thing Beth will ever do in her life, and will be enormously consequential. More and more I think it has to be from within (Seth or Woods).

The offense is back to reasonable at least with a strong defense after his son caused nearly catastrophic damage. I would like to see some new blood in the system and at least fire Pudmayr if he decides to give it another couple years.

I would like Phil to stay, but don't think that's possible with an outside hire or maybe even an internal hire.

You think woods or Wallace would get rid of Phil? Or you think he would leave unless its KF?

Kirk can stay, but if he leaves, then give the job to Wallace with Phil staying around a couple more years to make a smooth transition.

I don't want an outside hire at this point. Keep it rolling.

He doesn't really seem like he's ready to hang it up, and I'm ok with that. I generally want good things to happen to good people, and he's done some great things both on and off the field.

It's been pretty easy to identify his flaws and wish he would fix those, but then you look at the guy's record over the past forever years, and I'd sign up for that again in a heartbeat. Every coach has flaws.

Frankly I think that I need to be involved in the whole situation.

I could see Kirk stepping down. Would catch most by surprise. He’s still well liked and avoids the awkward retirement tour

He enjoys his players and staff too much. He will stay the course as long as he’s healthy and everyone in his life is also healthy and good. He may detest parts of this new era but it’s about those in the program that matter above all else

I equate the situation to that of a Farmer. It’s in his/their blood. It’s all he’s known his whole life.

I voted yes but basically echo what most everyone else is saying regarding appreciation for Kirk and the fact he’s probably gonna be here a few more years. Iowa shouldn’t stray far from the general blueprint he’s laid out when the time comes, with the caveat that the offense badly needs to continue to improve.

Most coaches will never voluntarily leave a team if they think they've got a good product coming back next year.

Can Elon Musk create an AI robot coach that is a perfect mix of KF and Bob Stoops

This 100%. I get frustrated with Kirk quite a bit, but at the end of the day Iowa has been very fortunate to have him.

He absolutely infuriates me sometimes. I'll never forget the bullshit with Brian, and the fact that it was Beth who did what needed to be done, not Kirk. That said, he's probably done about as well as an Iowa fan can reasonably expect. We're not and never will be an Ohio State. Our peers are Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebrantska. We've owned Minny and Nebrantska. Wisconsin had their run but they wanted to take that next step and now they're a smoking crater (hate to see it). It could be a lot worse.

I think he should retire, I think CFB has changed too much the last few years, and I'd like to see some new blood. I'm fully aware we could end up with our own Luke Fickell. I accept the risk. I'm fine with an internal hire, and 2025 is a horrible year to be looking externally.

Multiple times throughout the year I’ve wanted him gone. His allergies to good offense are infuriating and it is entirely on him.

At this point, the coaching carousel is filled with so many big name programs that I don’t see Iowa getting any sort of “sure thing” from outside the program. And if we are just looking internally, then we may as well keep him.

But that motherfucker needs to stop dropping games to Iowa state and it’d be nice to start beating ranked teams again.

I’m good with this. But I wonder if there’s a successful coach out there that’s off the radar that would be interested. Some dude with young kids who has bounced around moving to better jobs and has a shot at virtual lifetime job security.

Because he's a good coach and would keep things rolling. He's also far more progressive than Kirk. A ton of teams have tried to hire him away as DC and more in the past few years and he's turned them all down.

Doesn't matter what any of us fuckwads think.
If Kirk wants to retire, he'll retire.
If Kirk doesn't want to retire, he'll coach next year.

I’m guessing it’s because most of us appreciate pretty much everything the program is/does except the current offensive philosophy. The expectation (right or wrong) would be that the tough, workman like culture would continue while also hopefully being more aggressive on O with a younger HC. Whether that’s right or wrong, there are plenty of things the program does really well.

This. It’s actually a very easy concept to understand.

The thought is Kirk is the lone guy that keeps holding the offense back from being more modern and doing what it is capable of doing, but everything else in the program is pretty awesome and we want that all to continue so hiring from within and keeping it rolling is a great option.

Not a whole lot to get.

Also, they are right at the precipice and the overall toughness is back in the program. They kicked a lot of ass and hurt a lot of people this season while making the top level teams shit their pants and pull our miracles for wins. Since 2019, that simply wasn't existent, so after 7 years of wandering in the dark barely beating shitty teams and getting embarrassed by good teams, the trajectory of the program is very good again.

Oh, and they have (for Iowa) a stellar recruiting class coming in.
