I agree. But choosing his replacement this spring or in 2 years is the single most important thing Beth will ever do in her life, and will be enormously consequential. More and more I think it has to be from within (Seth or Woods).

He doesn't really seem like he's ready to hang it up, and I'm ok with that. I generally want good things to happen to good people, and he's done some great things both on and off the field.

It's been pretty easy to identify his flaws and wish he would fix those, but then you look at the guy's record over the past forever years, and I'd sign up for that again in a heartbeat. Every coach has flaws.

This 100%. I get frustrated with Kirk quite a bit, but at the end of the day Iowa has been very fortunate to have him.

He absolutely infuriates me sometimes. I'll never forget the bullshit with Brian, and the fact that it was Beth who did what needed to be done, not Kirk. That said, he's probably done about as well as an Iowa fan can reasonably expect. We're not and never will be an Ohio State. Our peers are Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebrantska. We've owned Minny and Nebrantska. Wisconsin had their run but they wanted to take that next step and now they're a smoking crater (hate to see it). It could be a lot worse.

I think he should retire, I think CFB has changed too much the last few years, and I'd like to see some new blood. I'm fully aware we could end up with our own Luke Fickell. I accept the risk. I'm fine with an internal hire, and 2025 is a horrible year to be looking externally.

I’m guessing it’s because most of us appreciate pretty much everything the program is/does except the current offensive philosophy. The expectation (right or wrong) would be that the tough, workman like culture would continue while also hopefully being more aggressive on O with a younger HC. Whether that’s right or wrong, there are plenty of things the program does really well.

The thought is Kirk is the lone guy that keeps holding the offense back from being more modern and doing what it is capable of doing, but everything else in the program is pretty awesome and we want that all to continue so hiring from within and keeping it rolling is a great option.

Also, they are right at the precipice and the overall toughness is back in the program. They kicked a lot of ass and hurt a lot of people this season while making the top level teams shit their pants and pull our miracles for wins. Since 2019, that simply wasn't existent, so after 7 years of wandering in the dark barely beating shitty teams and getting embarrassed by good teams, the trajectory of the program is very good again.
