Hank Brown is an inexperienced player who was forced into a situation with no prep. Let’s settle down a bit.
He's a big stiff pants shitter that Lester was shocked how terrible his delivery was in the Spring when he first got here that he had to completely change it. Then the first look in a live game he immediately said "lol NOPE" and dropped him to 3rd string.

Yes it’s been explained to me but I’m not buying that the best way to keep the bulk of the staff (which seems to be the goal of most here) is to move on from KF and replace him internally or otherwise. It seems to me that the best chance to retain the staff is to retain the guy they’ve chosen to work for.

Either way, some will probably move on but I think more will without KF than with him.

It doesn’t really matter though. Ferentz isn’t leaving until either (a) the bottom falls out or (b) he feels like he’s lost/can’t relate to the players. It’s clear neither has happened yet and there’s no evidence it is happening soon.

I’ll make a wager that he’s done after this year. But I will need some odds. Whats your confidence level?

I didn't think it would happen before the season with this schedule, but Kirk Ferentz is now over .600 at 224-149 to be HOF eligible. If he loses the bowl game, he drops sub-.600 again.

People say bowl games are meaningless, but this bowl game might have huge implications for the program for years to come. Not gonna lie, if I were KF, this would definitely play a factor in my decision.

This criterion was actually changed to .595, mainly to allow Leach in.

Staying above .600 next year should be manageable:

Northern Illinois, Iowa State, UNI all at home

Nebrantska, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin in Kin-nick

at Illinois, Washington, Michigan, Minnesota and NW

Multiple times throughout the year I’ve wanted him gone. His allergies to good offense are infuriating and it is entirely on him.

At this point, the coaching carousel is filled with so many big name programs that I don’t see Iowa getting any sort of “sure thing” from outside the program. And if we are just looking internally, then we may as well keep him.

But that motherfucker needs to stop dropping games to Iowa state and it’d be nice to start beating ranked teams again.
I’ve had more than my fair share of frustration with him, but the recent string of competitive game after the most recent changes have me somewhat hopeful that a few years of that, and a positive impact that it would also have recruiting certain positions, has Iowa back to winning some of those.

For all his faults, he is about as good of a “culture builder” as we’ve seen…sports, or otherwise. The likelihood of finding someone that does it as well as he does is very small.

I think the more likely path to Iowa winning those games is with Kirk, and a couple years of decent-ish offenses positively impacting recruiting hopefully

My bizarre related take…is that like fashion. Trends…where we’re weirdly watching our teenagers suddenly wearing the stuff we did in middle/high school…that the pendulum is starting to swing away from the more “sexy” programs and back towards good men like Kirk

I know they don't want to waste money on a transfer portal QB again so they can use it on other things, but this is one time I would hope that any rich Iowa alums would pony up whatever it takes to get a top tier QB in addition to all the positions they want to spend it on.

The culture and toughness of the program is back. They are close, and a high level and healthy talented QB could push Iowa over the top for a few years as Kirk rides off into the sunset.

Somebody find $3m-$4m to get the North Texas QB and a couple WR's for him.

Lb is their lowest need. Literally the lowest

Nah- #1 LB
If you have a Nick Jackson type wanting to come, yes. Otherwise, I’m ready to see a couple of the young LBs. DT and WR don’t seem to have the same talent waiting in the wings.

I don't even think WR is a big need. We looked fine when they finally decided to throw down the field. What good is a new WR going to be if we're afraid to throw more than 5 yards down the field

Im not disagreeing that they could use a stud WR but a stud LB is more important

I don't know how anyone can see having an almost competent quarterback drastically changed how the team looked this year and not believe that that isn't the absolute most important position need. Our linebackers sucked complete ass this year and the D-line wasn't far behind and we still had a top ten defense. They have to have a quarterback who isn't a coward running the offense.

It’s surprising Wetjen is an incredible returner but a pretty bad WR. Need to find a reliable slot type of receiver.

Iowa is always “fine” an usually exceptional at LB. Gronk isn’t the greatest passer but he has no one at WR outside of RVZ who makes plays bc of his size, not bc he gets separation to get open.
