Iowa is always “fine” an usually exceptional at LB. Gronk isn’t the greatest passer but he has no one at WR outside of RVZ who makes plays bc of his size, not bc he gets separation to get open.
Im not arguing that it would be great- but the shitty LB play cost them games this year. Iowa very rarely has great WR- and wins with decent QB play. Maybe they are always fine but this year they were barely average and that needs to change.

What makes you think they would 1. Do what it takes to bring them in, and 2. Utilize them to the best of their abilities down the field?
So we need them. Bitch that we don’t have them. But better not go get them.

They were part of the barely average LB core this year.

I don't give a shit about your overall argument but LOL at "isn't the greatest passer". Gronk fucking sucked passing the ball and missed wide open guys in every game. In addition to being wildly inaccurate he was afraid to anticipate any throws. He needed guys to be separated by 2-3 yards to pull the trigger in most cases.

Fine he sucked. You haven’t see me defend his passing at all this year.

If you don’t think WR is the weakest link on this team, in this program, you’re an idiot.

I think the LB pipeline is fine, and we fell victim to the bad side Kirk's union card mentality this year. I guess we'll see. That's the position we need to take the biggest leap next year, followed by interior DL. We got our shit pushed in in there at times this year (although LBs rarely cleaning up with authority made it look worse).

On offense, we know TE is going to take a nice leap, and OL will fall off some (although I don't think that much). I thought RB play was pretty meh this season...a decent jump there would do wonders. WR should be a little better, as RVZ, Parker and Howard all have more upside than Gill, Phillips and Wetjen at the position. QB is the real wild card. I'd like to see a quality portal signing as insurance in case Helinski isn't what we hope...that would be my top priority on offense, and may be only second to DT as an overall priority. You just can't risk ever being anything close to as dogshit at QB as we were during the miserable Bridawg years.

Thinking the biggest issue is LB is off the charts, NLP stupid.
4 losses
13,15,16 & 21pts scored in those games.
The LBs weren’t good but Jesus

We have the best LB class maybe in Iowa history coming in this year as well.
I’m not sure how high I would rank it, but as Gus mentioned above, my biggest concern at the LB position is the Union Card mentality. There is plenty of young talent in that group

I didnt say it was the biggest issue- just that they should prioritize getting a #1 LB. Sorry Cam Buffington is not that guy- He's "Fine"

I feel like Pat Fitzgerald will make a significant run at Seth Wallace.

Bert gained all his weight back from the summer and got embarrassed by a shitty Wisconsin team in what should have been a heated rivalry game, but his guys played like bitches.

I don't want him. Ever.
I just noticed this. He must have put at least 80 lbs back on since Big Ten media day.

How is that even possible?

as I understand it, can’t quit those fat shots once you go on them. the hunger that returns apparently is more tremendous than ever

He's gaining at least 20 lbs per month.

Can you imagine how many calories you have to consume to do that?

It appears to be intentional

It might be a factor of him just having the time to be disciplined during the summer, but during the season you’re just living at the office and door dashing everything.

In your buildup to blue shirts, what is the most you put on in a month?

He works at a large university. There’s almost certainly a cafeteria somewhere close to him where he or an assistant could get a salad or a turkey sandwich with a very little inconvenience.

That same cafeteria likely has pizza, burgers and a soft serve machine.

I would really like if Kirk brought on Mark Stoops as some sort of “special recruiting assistant”…of maybe fire Buttmayer or something. He’d be a great option to have on the staff if/when Kirk decides to hang it up

Right. I understand that. I am just saying that it is not any more convenient to get a burger and fries then it would be to get a turkey wrap.
