I guess if you're forced to field essentially a brand new team of transfers, castoffs and longshots, this isn't the worst schedule to do it with. When you see it laid out like this, man, conference realignment butchered the Big 12.

Should be 3-3 before the bye, and probably 2-4 after (though 3-3 or even 4-2 are on the table).

WVU, Okie State, Baylor and UCF are all decent chances, probably. And of course Iowa if Kirk doesn't prioritize winning it.

Can you imagine being a fan and seeing this as your home slate:
SEMO
BGU
Utah
West Va
Okie State
Cincinatti
K-state

That is a mid-major esque home schedule.

That's a 4-8 team
While the portal haul overall was at the bottom end of the P5 tier, objectively speaking, I think they actually did better than I would have expected given their situation.

When the Campbell departure was first announced, and the transfers started rolling....I thought they would be lucky to win 2 or 3 games next year. A month later, and looking at how favorable their schedule is, I think they could win 5 or 6 next year.

They went 5-4 in conference last year and got worse at almost every position.

They also don’t play 2 of the Top 4 teams from 2025, and I think it’s likely that Utah, one of the 2 they do play, will take a step back from last year as well. The schedule is VERY favorable for them.

They think they're a better team moving forward than they were under campbell

To be fair, he said all things considered. And it wasn't a certainty that they'd field a team after 50 or so departures. So through that lens, A for effort.

It was a certainty they'd field a team. They're still busting their budget to pay their football team more than $10m+ next year. It's not hard to get some of the 8000 guys out of the portal with that kind of money. For example, I think they took 15-20 guys from Washington State, who is paying around $3 mil for their roster.
