LOL they just went right to a guard post up on McCollum and abused him. The Big Ten going to have a field day with this midget.

Rebounding is atrocious.

I just want to see Thompson and Harris play to know whether they suck or not.

It is. But no one complains like reporters.
o rly?

and immediately blown by
it took him ten seconds to give up a layup
Imagine picking iowa over Purdue or Gonzaga and watching the coaches kid play before you.
i hate to tell you but
he can’t dribble with his left hand. He’s not a point guard.
Who would have thought you needed to replace an nba pg who handled the ball all game?
funny how it always works out that way when the coach has a kid on the team
I dont have much else to say, as I told everyone what was coming.
that’s fucking retarded. The main guys played like 5 mins together.
We have terrible hands. Slow down everyone.

If this McCollum playing time trend is actually real you can kiss any remote shot at getting Daughtry goodbye. Talk about giving the other guy the gun on the recruiting trail.

that’s crazy talk. First I’ve heard of this tactic.
Sometimes the truth is more retarded than fiction I guess. Never thought this would be an actual worry.

All that said, this team is still likely to be about what we thought it would. Sage and Koch will clearly be the best players, you know what you’re getting with Manyawu and Combs, and Coon looks somewhat promising. 10-10 and another 9 seed would be just fine.

Doug already mentioned the back door lobs and I think he was talking about basketball, but coon tonight felt like the Aaron white debut. You never quite know what to expect until the lights come on for freshmen, but some guys just clearly stand out even if they need to develop parts of their game.

Neither of them have looked anything other than average. They are going to be completely different/shittier players without Stirtz.

Maybe they both step up when the competition does, but it's a mish mash of average at every position, so far.

Coon stands out with his athleticism.

This team definitely needs to improve their shooting but that’ll come. They obviously miss Stirtz but most of tonight was just early season sloppiness

Lipscomb is a pretty solid low major team and will likely win their conference this year.

Jirak looks world's better this year. Quicker and stronger (still not quick or strong), but his passing and size will be important.

There will be games were Coleman is going to get abused on defense by bigger guards. Same for McCollum. I'd imagine those games we will see less McCollum minutes. He's going to be a thing.

I think most of the first half was playing around with rotations to see what was going to work. Hard to take much away without McKeever on the floor. His impact will be big.

No McKeever is tough since he was brought in to fill a specific void. At the same time, he’s not going to play all game so need to figure out wtf to do when he’s not in there. Tonight not a bad time to test that out a bit.

No concerns with Sage or Koch. They’re solid. Combs good too and in control. No reason to worry about any of these three at this point

Good to see Coon in there. He’s athletic as fuck and I’m guessing Ben likes that on D and will take his chances with him on O as long as a couple legit shooters are out there too.

Surprised at Trey Thompson. Was hoping to see more of him but that is obviously Ben’s call. Thompson, Harris and Coon are all the same age so maybe as simple as Coon being the best. Really was hoping for a Thompson bump this year though.

Matteoni and McCollum were annoying. McKeever playing probably keeps Matteoni on the bench for the most part. McCollum was going to play regardless due to the shitty opponent. Howard getting in foul trouble accelerated him getting in there. Neither are terrible, and they give good effort, but they should really only get spot minutes.

I like Coleman. I want to like Howard but he makes it difficult at times.

It’s still the first fucking game so all that is probably hot garbage, but those are my thoughts.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Coon was great on both ends. I thought Jirak showed he has significantly improved and it seems like he can be a reliable backup to McKeever. Good size, good passer, can pick n pop a little bit. That’s a strong backup 5. I like Coleman and think he will be a great asset this year.
Sage and Koch did well enough. Combs was fine. Really disappointed with McCollum and Matteoni over Harris and Thompson. And free throws plus rebounding. But I did think the ball moved pretty well and hope that movement is a sign of things to come.

Starting three shitty or reluctant shooters like Howard, Combs and Manyawu makes no sense. Coleman will make or break this team. They need his penetration and shooting and he is the one guy that can make the game easier for Koch and Sage. I think this team could end up being pretty damn good.

What’s the story with the Simpkins kid transferring from Oregon to Lipscomb of all places? 32 MPG and 12.5 PPG in the Big Ten as a second year kid and he transfers down?
