Why would Chryst turn down Northwestern HC to come to Iowa as a coordinator?
Because he doesn't want to be a head coach at this point? He can likely make $2m per year without the hassle.

Well there's that and the fact that there is no HC position available at NW. What am I missing here?

Does taking a HC position impact Chryst’s buyout from Wisconsin while an assistant job does not? (I’ve seen that before).

That would be glorious if Chryst was on Iowa’s staff while still collecting a check from Wisconsin.

IDMOFR, and the answer is “No”. Looks like Chryst just got a meager $11M in the form of a negotiated, lump sum payout.

Pretty nice lump. Not ridiculous like Jimbo, but he should be very financially secure and hopefully willing for one more challenge that he could use as another stepping stone should he desire. Imagine the suitors for premiere jobs if he could elevate Iowa's offensive standings to top half of the NCAA or even higher.

Chryst as OC of Wisconsin.....

10-3
12-1
9-4
7-6
10-3
11-2
11-3

70-22 and his RB's ran for a billion yards and they shoved their giant cheese cocks up everyone's ass. They were a terror in that stretch ranked 6 of 7 seasons with a Top 5 and Top 7 finish.
That sounds good...I'd like that

I thought Chryst losing his job had something to do with getting lazy in recruiting. Am I making that up?

They didn’t even have a recruiting coordinator IIRC. Iowa fills that with Kirk’s son in law, although to be fair, Kirk’s son in law doesn’t seem to be terrible at his job.

Didn't he have a billion interceptions against Iowa? I don't watch Indiana football so I'll assume that was indicative of his skill. Sort of like Mertz going to Florida. I'm going to assume that most guys that showed flaws at their old schools are going to show it at their new ones, despite how much they command on the NIL market. 99 times out of 100 it's foolish to think otherwise. Except for Cade McNamara...

I was surprised to see this, but Mertz had 20 TDs to 3 int this year. Florida still sucked, but I expected far worse.

That’s probably a 7 td / 11 int season with Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz though.

That seems bad, but maybe being head coach was too much for him and coordinator is just right.

coordinator and head coach are pretty different, he wasn’t a great CEO (although he was 67-26 and had four 10+ win seasons), that doesn’t mean he forgot how to call plays

Make no mistake, Iowa has a lack of talent problem at WR, but I do not think it is as severe as Iowa's offense makes it seem.

They ask a lot out of the line also, everything takes so long to develop.
Sometimes I can't help but think of the WR juggernaut of Billy Happel and Scott Helverson and how effective they were. They would have no chance in the current Iowa offense, but they were pretty damn good in Hayden's system. I know a lot has changed since then, but our current receivers would be fine without a giant dipshit running the offense.

My 1st choice would be Ludwig of Utah, but that is likely a pipe dream, so yeah Chryst would be good considering the possible scenarios involving internal options (shudder).
Great name - but if the Notre Dame number wasn’t enough to lure him away - we sure as shit ain’t hitting that

I don't know his family situation, but if he has young boys, I think it makes sense to pass on ND.
You're wrong there Stink - Notre Dame actually offered to relocate Newsy and his family so that the ND Parish would be his home church and therefore safe from any risk of these despicable acts happening. He must just want to stay in Utah.

He would be an excellent OC. He became overly conservative as a head coach, but he had to be talked out of being too aggressive by Burt when he was OC.

Recruiting wasn't why he lost his job. He didn't want to do the CEO things that the new AD thought were needed for college football (Hated talking to the media and selling the program, NIL issues, transfer portal, etc). Though he also wasn't developing like he used to.

Especially if it brings Braelon Allen, Shonn Greene type backs along with a decent to good WR that the Badgers always seemed to have.

My roommate from grad school is a Wisconsin alum and tells me Chryst is washed up and couldn’t adapt to the evolving game. Prove him wrong, Hawks!

Is Brian still allowed in the press box?
Honestly I think I had the right idea a few months back. Press box would be even better for Brian than a normal OC, relative to their abilities

i think a good compromise between Doug who wants him to stay and the rest of us fans is to keep him on the staff but put him in the box with a headset that doesn’t connect to anyone. He’ll never notice.
