Iowa did exactly what they needed to do to win and what I thought they would do. Should have won, could have won if not for some horrendous luck.

- Finally have a real, actual, legit QB that is out-playing the Heisman front runner and he gets hurt on a freak play with the score tied in the 4th quarter
- Fluke tipped INT when in FG range
- Missed an easy FG
- Phil for some reason goes with a all-out blitz when all you had to do is play clean and you get the ball back w/ 1:38 only needing a FG to win the game

As much as this loss hurts, the Iowa State loss hurts so much more. If you are 4-0 and lose this game against a Top 10 team in a battle and prove you are legit, the whole season is ahead of you. Now in the era of the playoffs the season is over. Starting QB might have an injury that costs him weeks, you still have to play a couple Top 10 teams and the only chance to do anything meaningful is win out. There is maybe a 1% chance that happens.

If they win this and 4-1 going into a bye and Wisconsin to follow with prime matchup with Penn State to follow, it's jack off territory.

Mother fucker.

Stevens can’t miss that kick. Completely changes the defensive call on the 3rd and 10 play they scored the TD on if Iowas up 3 instead of tied. Not sure a safety blitz is the right call there anyway.
He's very talented and has a monster leg, but he's a headcase. Was unplayable at the end of the 2023 season, then fixed it completely all of last year and now this year the last 3 weeks he's been all over the place again. It might have been the hold, but he's been too inconsistent for Iowa to win.

Isn’t his Dad or some other family member a psycho on Twitter too?

Indiana won that game on a late long TD pass, the kind of play we’d never even consider in that situation.
Dude, you need to stop. You didn't even watch the game and were relying on Halo and the box score.

It wasn't a late long TD pass, they threw a 5 yard slant on 3rd and 10 and if the CB makes the tackle it is 4th and 2. He missed the tackle and he ran the other 45 yards. It wasn't a long throw, it was a long run.

It was a 5-yard slant that got housed because Phil decided to bring 10 guys.

I don't know enough about football to know why, but every completion for Indiana felt like the WR was one broken tackle away from scoring.

Every Iowa completion was to a guy surrounded by defenders. Never any space to make a play, outside of the one to Wetjen.

I just don’t understand playing off coverage with an all out blitz. You have to force the throw over the top to the sideline. You can get away with that if you have DeJean or Moss. Not with Lee.

We played a ton of man, uncharacteristically.

The game was lost in the first half with the short field TD after the tipped interception, and spotting them another 3 to close the half by not tackling.
I'm usually up for putting the blame somewhere, but really can't for this game. Iowa came to play on all sides for the most part. Everyone screwed up a little bit, but they just took a Top 10 team to the wire in a game where most thought they had no shot and would get blown out.

Not to mention it happened in large part because we lost our difference maker QB.

The Defense held that juggernaut of an offense to pretty much 13 points. The first TD wasn't their fault.

It's because Iowa is forced to play a lot more press man coverage with the CB's this year because the LB's are slow and shitty and can't cover anyone. They aren't running nearly as much traditional Phil Parker zone.

This is it for me as well. You don’t have NFL guys as corners this year. Phil does need to adjust that.

Too many mistakes/dumb luck plays to win. Y'all don't like hearing it, but "that's football" accurately describes this game.

(Starting to smell a lot like 1997 up in here, incidentally. Talent gets hurt, bunch of losses where maybe one play changes the outcome, boring bowl loss in El Paso or the equivalent.)

If Gronowski can come back 100% and with Phil they can still pick off either Penn St or Oregon at home, hoping for a 30-35 degree windblown Kinnick when Oregon visits in November.

On one hand, Nwankpa blasted a few guys today, but dude completely whiffs on more tackles than anyone I can remember.

It's like watching Stevie Wonder play safety.

This was a conference game. You are crazy to think this game doesn’t hurt way worse than a non-conference road loss at Iowa state. Unlike that game, Iowa won the line of scrimmage for four quarters and should have won the game.

The Douche is such a competitive conference now. So many things have to go right for Iowa to be able to put a great team on the field. Could really use a bunch of NFL level players to show up out of Grain Bin, IA here.

He hasn’t wrapped up since he arrived in Iowa City.

We had two tipped balls go for interceptions that likely directly changed points in both directions. We still win the game if our QB isn’t hurt or our backup sets his feet on a screen. Kirk and Co. got that game exactly how they wanted even with bad breaks and a breakdown before half that gave them 3.

The deep ball stuff is stupid. As we saw last week, when they get opportunities, they take shots. When there’s an umbrella and you don’t have a talent advantage you take the intermediate stuff. Mark was mainly good with that tonight, had 2 big missed.

Indiana could pretty much get 7-15 yards on every 1st down run play. They couldn’t get 1-3 yards on any 2nd, 3rd or 4th down run plays.

I just feel as an Iowa, we can't complain about tipped ball luck after the last five seasons or so.
