I'd guess Barta and the athletics fundraisers are being territorial with their donors (season ticket holders). They don't like the idea of the collective taking a bite out of their fundraising. But it sounds better to blame Title IX.

This is literally the only explanation that makes any "sense". If Garta and the athletic department are so fucking stupid that they want to hold onto their donors over letting them funnel to the NIL, then LOL.

I mean, I hate the NIL and would never give, but being territorial over donations in the year 2022 is laughable.

Pretty sure the AD still has a fair amount of debt and the $100M annual payday is still several years away. So that’s probably accurate. Nevertheless, Gary Barta can go fuck himself.

"I've bit my tongue on this until now, but I can't stay quiet any more. We recorded a video with Kirk Ferentz and scheduled to do the same with Fran/Lisa where each coach asks Hawkeye fans to support the SWARM, and Kirk even mentioned that in order for us to win championships, we must be competitive in the NIL space.

"We sent it to Iowa athletics two weeks ago and asked that they send it to all football season ticket holders. Or, conversely, we asked if they would send us the contact information of all season ticket holders and we would send out the video.

Today we were told that Iowa athletics will not support us any further and will not comply with our request unless we comply with Title IX and raise money for all Hawkeye sports.

In case anybody is curious, this is NOT the playbook that exists everywhere else, and all successful collectives have a very cooperative athletics department. I was just talking to the head of the UNC collective and he was telling me that having access to all season ticket holders and donor information is helping him immensely in his pursuit of keeping their stud QB on campus.

I’m out of ideas on this issue…as I have gone above Gary’s head to the President and to the Board of Regents and while they support my position, it is apparently Iowa Athletics’ call.

I may have a couple beers tonight to blow off some steam…because I’m pretty ticked off.

If anybody has suggestions I’m all ears."

Here is a suggestion.... tell any of the 35 "reporters" that cover Iowa to raise hell with Barta about it until he answers publicly. Tell your head coaches to raise hell about it. Kirk, Fran and Bluder hold the power, not Gary.

Barta is the perfect example of the death of the meritocracy. A lazy, midwit “management by spreadsheet” middle manager that is propped up by his talented subordinates, then when things DO go south he invariably blames his failures on them.

He should have been fired years ago, if not tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.

imagine in how much better shape the department would be if Jane Meyer was in charge.

Doesn't he live in Florida? ( Tx_Hawk / Brad Heinrichs ) Seems like it would be a pain for him to go to all the Swarm events in Iowa City while living in FL.

Garta has it backwards. He needs to work for Kurt on NIL instead of Brian’s future employment at the University of Iowa.

Looks like L. Wade is going to have to work on Christmas Eve.

If so, that’s a problem.

Attorneys are there to advise you of the risks. Your job is to decide which risks to take.

Barta needs to make the decision.
Just an absolute profile in courage out of Gary so far this post season. Sometimes what needs to be done isn’t pleasant, and we’re blessed to have a guy like him on that wall.

So is the concern about capitol improvement projects. It is all weak excuse-making.

I’m sure complaints originated from the many directors of inclusion and diversity (and various other titles) they have on payroll. Because he’s had his balls cut off, he won’t just tell them “too bad”.

Or like others have said, this is just cover for not wanting to lose funds.

Almost the entire department needs to be blown up and have their methods and operations evaluated. I think he’s largely a puppet but he’s just a symptom of the larger problems. They cannot get anything done or make any changes without an absurd level of bureaucracy.

At some point, someone is gonna have to tell the women that no one gives a fuck about them playing sports and you've already been given far too much.

We're eliminating all gender specific teams as a means of inclusion and if you would like to compete for a spot on our football team, please feel free to try out.

Even the whole “win graduate do it right” nonsense is a symptom. It’s like they take way too much pride in some self created sense of virtue in the dumb way they do things.

I think a lot of the confusion on this is that a lot of business people aren't used to dealing with someone as stupid as Gary Barta.
