Today, they just weren't ready to play, it was like one of those mid 2010's 1st round BiG games, Iowa just sucked against a team they should have beaten easily.

But the thing this staff really misses is someone that can gauge where a bunch of young kids are at emotionally and speak to that when it’s a problem. Call it lack of confidence, call it playing tight…this team was “off.” And that’s not something this staff excels at identifying and overcoming

The offense just seemed lost all game long. It looked like shit to start, very disorganized. It never got better. Perkins was god awful. Patrick was shit in the first half, particularly when they had a chance to extend the game to double digits and instead he shit on several possessions in a row.

This. For some reason, throughout the game, they passed up decent shots early in the shot clock, and ended up forcing bad shots late in the clock. I don't understand why, but that was a consistent theme.

After further reading, the Wilson basketball is probably worthy of more consideration. A bunch of NBA players attributed it to the cause of early season poor shooting and needing an adjustment time to get used to it.

The ball was available for use throughout the 2021-22 NCAA, but it was up to home teams on which ball to use. Based on Fran's comments, Iowa obviously didn't use it. Not sure on other programs.

But the "both teams had to use the same ball" argument seems questionable as the better offensive/shooting team (Iowa) has more to lose from something that adversely impacts shooting.

The question becomes if Iowa and the other programs knew this ball would be used during the NCAA tournament. If so, Iowa should've been using that ball all along (they obviously weren't). If not, that's bullshit on the part of the NCAA springing that ball on tournament teams given the controversy/needed adjustment period already experienced in the NBA.

I'm not so sure. He landed Lohaus, and would have landed Lorenzen (also McD AA), but a lot of his other guys were not Ravelling-level recruits. I loved Boyle and Brookins and Carfino and Banks and Payne, but none of them were difference makers. One of the many reasons he left for Arizona was to tap into the West Coast talent base.

Lute would have made some 16s and maybe a couple more 8s, but that 1980 run was the outlier. Unless he broke out Ravelling's bag, he wasn't going to bring national championship-level talent to Iowa.
