It was just an off night from everyone not named Brock Harding. Dix had his moments in the second half, but was cold like everyone else when they spotted them a 17 point lead almost immediately.
Yep. Freeman was weird, felt like he was banged up or sick or something. Just had no explosion and was a step slow.

Patrick has moved to the top of the list of most hated player of the Fran era. Today, he passed Zack McCabe for me.

He got progressively worse every year since his Sophomore year, and let us never forget that is the year that he was given the 3rd most minutes on the team and 35% more minutes than fellow sophomore Kris Murray who would go on to become All-Big Ten / All-American and 1st round draft pick only months later.

Fuck Fran and Margaret into the sun for their bullshit with him. He should have been pulled off the team last January and then moved on this year.

The best part of Iowa Football and Iowa Basketball is that at the end of the season both programs were finally rid of their awful nepo babies.

Sophomore Patrick McCaffery was given more minutes per game than the following players....

- Kris Murray (35% more)
- Tony Perkins (34% more)
- Filip Rebecca
- Payton Sandfart (2.5x the minutes)
- Joe Toussaint (36% more)
- Connor McCaffery (37% more)

The number of times Perkins penetrated, then refused to challenge anyone at the rim was baffling as well.

It will sound like overreaction, but it’s just time for a fresh start. I love Fran and all, but this program has no momentum. I’ll say though that Brock and Owen have a chance to be the guys to get the students back into the building. They are likeable, local, and play with emotion. I just think it’d be better for all parties if Fran moves on.

Made the drive over from DSM, no way I’m back for a few years. This team doesn’t make it worth it.

I would like a fresh start as well, but I would also be fine with Fran staying if he showed any interest in actually addressing his going on 15 year issues. If he would upgrade his coaching staff with a couple of defensive hires and also find a way to give $1m of his salary to get another rebounding post player and an actual PG, then it would be great to have him back.

personally I appreciated him short arming and nearly airballing shirt the wide open corner 3 that would have cut it to 6 (?)

I don't blame you. If you were like 45 minutes away, then it would be worth going more often, but in the era when you can buy a 85'' 4K HDTV for $800 it isn't worth driving from DSM.

NIL fundraising might be received better if a school making a shitload of money off of TV contracts doesn't have a coach who makes 3+ million a year asking fans for NIL money after having his sons on scholarship for the past decade. The same sons who constantly bitch about the fans.

I also fucking HATE that our most viable coaching options are Fran, who likely might still have his son Jack play for him in a year and be faced with another 4 years of this shit.....\

OR

We are most likely to hire a guy from Drake because he also has a son that plays for him with another year left.

DeVries lost like 10 guys off last years roster. He should get you even more excited because he lives in the portal and donors like him. Tucker has just given him consistency.

there are also like 3-4 other good candidates who would gladly take the job.

I’m also in the rare camp of being fine with the students being where they are. If anything, give them one less section.

The women have proven Carver can be loud. And if they moved the students down, there’s no way they’ll fill it up anyway.

I’d be fine with a fresh start and I’m probably overly optimistic generally but I like the core of what they have. They have 3 seniors and we can’t wait for 2 of them to be gone and the other guy might be back. Dix, Freeman, Sandforts, Harding, Ladji, Tadjo and hopefully Koch is a good base. If you can get Tony back and/or one more guard, I think it has some real potential plus we’re finally done with the Patrick cloud.

The issue is obviously how stagnant things are with a large chunk of the fan base, students and NIL money. I’m not sure how much Goetz can fix but I at least think she’ll be more proactive than Barta.

I don’t get what happened. It was announced as a sellout and they stopped selling tickets. There’s no fucking way we sell 5 full sections of student tickets.

Fran is one of the lowest paid coaches in the league. Every coach everywhere that makes significantly more asks fans for NIL donations.

It’s spring break. The students are largely gone. Campus feels empty.
And, student tickets are like $5/game. With the men competing with the women for the students attendance, they are choosing the fun and winning that comes with the Iowa Women right now.

Harding was the sole reason we got back into that game, so of course he hardly played in the second half.
I was thinking the same thing in the 2nd half. After being the lone bright spot in the 1st half I was surprised we didn't see more of him in the 2nd

Schertz seems like he’d be a great option too but probably getting a bigger job this year. Medved has a pretty good track record and reputation. Drew Valentine is only 32 but he’s done a great job remaking that Loyola team in a new conference.

That made zero sense. Fran put Perkins back in when it was obvious he was playing terrible.

The 2 foul rule was able to keep him sidelined without question in the first. I think Fran couldn’t pull the trigger on effectively benching Tony on senior night for a freshman, even though it was defensible and needed. Couldn’t find a lineup with them both on the floor either apparently.

Brock, Tony, Dix, Sandfort, Owen. It didn’t have to be difficult. Bringing Brock in with Dembele was just a waste

I drove from 50 minutes away. It was not worth it.
I got tickets to the Purdue game and drove from 15 minutes away on a day where it was below freezing. Had seats 3 and 4 for the wife and myself. Get there, and of course 2 tremendous people are in seats 1 and 2 with 60 lbs of coats stuffed in seat 3 while the people sitting in seat 5-9 is 1 family with all of their coats in seat 4. Everyone just sat there covered in their winter clothing, watching Purdue build a 14 point lead with Edey on the bench because Fran refused to call a timeout and all of his starters on the bench. It was that moment that I realized, oh yeah, this is why I stopped getting season tickets and coming to games.

Where do Patrick’s 23 minutes fit in with that lineup?

The fanbase is done with Fran. Even a shitty women’s team next year isn’t getting fans back to Carver to watch double Sandfarts.

DeVries @ Drake
6) 20 win seasons
3) NCAA appearances (in the last 4 years)
2) regular season conference titles

Drake had 1 of each of those from the years 1972-2018.

This hire makes too much sense which is why I don’t see it happening: a native Iowan and brother of a Hawkeye Football legend who built a shitty mid-major into a consistent winner 100 miles away from Iowa City.

You’re right, Iowa isn’t going to do better.

If DeVries was at Valpo rather than Drake he would be held in higher regard by Iowa fans.

Drake feels bad to us due to familiarity.
Where do you get the notion that Iowa fans look down on DeVries- I don't like him, but I feel solidly in the minority on this.

I’m fine with DeVries. I used to think we could do better, but no longer do. He won’t put a team of pasty pussies out there. Hope it happens soon. My body is ready.
Honestly if he hires the right assistants he’d be great. Doing better would be in name only.
