Just when you thought Illinois couldn't get any worse...

Nice little reverse/jet sweep for negligible yardage to Marsette on there.

So as of now it appears Niemann and Mends are for sure starters but they don’t know who the middle linebacker is going to be. Kakert said Wallace couldn’t stop talking about Amani Jones and he thinks he’ll be the starter so we can take him off the board. Haven’t heard anything about Hockaday, and Welch appeared to be the favorite early.

Really don’t want to go into the season with a question mark at that position.

Nice to see Rugamba getting physical in the run game. Also appears Brandon Simon was getting some time with the 2’s. No idea if that was end or tackle.

I think this is good news, especially that there’s a clear favorite with pedigree at the coverage heavy spot. Either Jones or Welch will be fine.

NIU had arguably the best defense in the G5 last year, although they were playing a really aggressive style that isn't all that similar to what Iowa does. Still definitely a worthwhile guy to take a shot on given the current LB situation
I'm guessing he tweeted that out because NIU is Iowa's first opponent.
Could be that, but if they're going to bring in a grad transfer that'd be the obvious place (well that and punter). Especially when it's a good player from a program in the area that Kirk respects a lot.

E: should have read that whole article, he wants to transfer to a school in Tex, where he's from. So you're right. Still good news for Iowa though.

Will be interesting to see how much Epenesa plays inside given Iowa’s lack of DTs.

Based on the PSD tweet, expectations might be a little high going into this season.

I still think he's by far the DE who would make that transition the best but they've said they want him focused entirely on DE. They're moving other guys like Golston to DT, and letting Hesse line up there on the occasional third and long.

With Matt Nelson out this spring it makes it look worse than it is.

I am wrong for being EXCITED about this years passing game?

Seems like everyone is way down on our WR talent and offense. I mostly loved our offense last year aside from execution in the deep game and in the red zone. You don’t need 7 good WR, you need 3 maybe 4. I think we have them.

I’m optimistic but they need him to hit those deep balls and need someone to develop on the outside but i do think his is the most talented group since mcnutt/DJK. Either that or play three tight ends

Saw an article today in the USA Today and I didn't realize that Wisconsin is returning their whole offensive line.

I'm right there with him but even at this point I'm ready to tap out and accept the fact they are staying put for a while.

It finally happened in basketball and I think this could be the year in football.

The difference being that at this point it's pretty safe to say the coach doesn't matter for football (or it does matter, but the coach is actually still Barry Alvarez)

We’ve been hearing a lot from the players and coaches lately about improved speed, especially at the WR position. Either everyone involved with the program is conspiring to feed us all bullshit, or we might actually have us some athletes this year.
