Yeah! And fuck Crete, too.

I think he'll end up being the starter opposite Hankins by mid-season, if not sooner. His development could have a huge influence on the outcome of this season.Really nice article about DJ Johnson. Gonna be a good one.

5’11” 215. The walk-on pipeline from Iowa Western continues. I could see this guy being useful at some point.

Sounds like a great kid with an outstanding Mom. I love that kind of kid being a Hawk.Really nice article about DJ Johnson. Gonna be a good one.

His juco coach says he thinks he's on scholarship for whatever that's worth. Dunno what the numbers look like right now but wouldn't be surprised if a couple more kids have left, or they put Toks on a medical scholarship since it seems like he probably can't play ever again.5’11” 215. Could use a WR or two though.Nate fuckin Stanley don’t need no running backs.
CEDRIC BOSWELLwho?
I am a kirk defender but his love for MMA over boxing has always been troubling. That is the second high profile boxer's son to fail at Iowa.
That’s got to suck for @nolookpassThat is the second high profile boxer's son to fail at Iowa.
Dude who was probably about to be like the 8th string corner with the freshmen coming inwho?
And Patterson's first real season was really in 2001 (he just coached the bowl game in 2000).Ferentz is of course the longest tenured head coach and only one hired in the 90's. Gary Patterson at TCU is the only other person close after being hired in 2000.
https://www.landof10.com/iowa/iowa-football-pass-offense-nate-stanley-noah-fant-explosiveDuring the team’s max-out period this spring, Fant’s vertical jump this spring would have ranked third in NFL combine history. Stanley witnessed the event and called it “crazy.”
“We’re all kind of doing our verticals at the same time, but when you hear a coach say, ‘42,’ your jaw just kind of drops,” Stanley said. “It’s pretty special to be able to do that. It’s pretty spectacular.”
This is going to be interesting to see how it works out. I would say at a minimum it makes every program stronger if used properly and they have a talented freshman class.Yeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss
yes.So a freshman can sit out the first 8 games, and then when depth is needed at the end of the year, they can play without using any eligibility?
Correct. So a freshman can sit out the first 8 games, and then when depth is needed at the end of the year, they can play without using any eligibility?
It also would have been to his advantage in his final season. I didn't see any restriction to it being freshman only.a guy like Ott in 2012 would have just missed (he wound up playing five games)
he played six games in 2015. they might have played that differently I guess. It also would have been to his advantage in his final season. I didn't see any restriction to it being freshman only.a guy like Ott in 2012 would have just missed (he wound up playing five games)
It also allows the freshmen to develop during the course of the season and provide more value at the back-end of the season.Correct.So a freshman can sit out the first 8 games, and then when depth is needed at the end of the year, they can play without using any eligibility?
A school like Iowa that ends us decimated at the end of the season and doesn't have the depth like a Alabama or Ohio State can now play freshman if needed.
The medical waiver is still good if you need a 6th season. It would make sense to get rid of the medical waiver all-together with this new rule. Takes subjectivity out of any decisions.
It would work out nice for Petras if he wins the 2nd string job like Stanley did two years ago. You get him some mop-up time when you can in case of injury, but don't play him that 5th game unless needed.I also wonder if they are going to extend this to anyone currently on the roster at the start of the 2018 season.
Bowl games count against the 4 games played, though, from what I'm reading. So, really more like 9 games they'd have to sit out.So a freshman can sit out the first 8 games, and then when depth is needed at the end of the year, they can play without using any eligibility?
Not sure this is true. I think it's entirely possible you'll see less true freshmen as full season ST-only players now which would lead to more ST playing time for these upper class walk-on types. The players this will suck for is walk-on upper class that will have their playing opportunities taken away.
I guess that makes sense. Instead of seeing Max Cooper in every game, you see him in 4 games and walk-ons are relied upon heavier to fill in.Not sure this is true. I think it's entirely possible you'll see less true freshmen as full season ST-only players now which would lead to more ST playing time for these upper class walk-on types. The players this will suck for is walk-on upper class that will have their playing opportunities taken away.
I don't agree with that if the premise is that Ferentz plays it safe. He has shown numerous times lately that he will play young guys including a true freshman quarterback and true freshmen linemen.I don't think this rule change will have much of an impact on Kirk's personnel decisions at all.
All I mean is that there will be very few guys getting playing time as a result of this rule that would not have been getting it anyway.I don't agree with that if the premise is that Ferentz plays it safe. He has shown numerous times lately that he will play young guys including a true freshman quarterback and true freshmen linemen.I don't think this rule change will have much of an impact on Kirk's personnel decisions at all.
Correct, that is what I see as the biggest change. You see guys playing for depth late in the year.In the beginning of the season maybe, but I think there could be guys getting some snaps late in the year that otherwise wouldn't.
