About the only thing keeping UW from another undefeated season is a possible night game in Kinnick
MI is going to have a legit defense this year.
And at least a better offense. I think Patterson is being a little overyhyped and they have serious oline questions, but it's hard to imagine him being worse than what they were trotting out last year. Especially since they had really young receivers who should presumably be better this year.

I get coaches liking his motor and quickness....but the thought of a 272 lb DT facing off against the interior of B10 O-Lineman terrifies me.

Did it terrify you when it was Mitch King and Matt Kroul in the middle?

Public intox laws in Iowa are retarded. There is no objectivity to a cop handing one of these out. At least it wasn’t an owi.

I feel Brady is a nice piece of the rotation. Gonna have to keep that group fresh to be productive. Not a lot of difference makers at DT. Rotate Brinks, Nelson, Lattimore, Reiff liberally.

How very TOS and Cyclone Fanatic of you.

I've never seen a cop give someone a public intox that didn't earn it.

likely not this situation but I’ve seen some questionable ones
I'm guessing you were intoxicated yourself and that tends to blur the perception. =)

I worked downtown Iowa City for years, helped run a bar and still have yet to see a cop unjustly give someone a public intox. I have seen hundreds of times they could have given someone a ticket and they didn't. They are exceedingly patient when it comes to public intox. When it came to underage? That was a different story.

Anecdotal for sure but who knows.

never had a PI

I have seen them give PIs to passengers after arresting the driver for DUI. Also have seen them arrest people for PI on their own property. In both cases, the people were happy drunk and causing zero disturbance.

Like you said, anecdotal, but not all cops are created equal

I had an officer threaten me with a PI when I wasn’t even drinking in the past. Shits weak.

I agree that most people who get PI are being drunk assholes. I just don’t think it’s a law we need if no one is being endangered, if your law requires LEO discretion/judgment it’s not a great law. It’s mostly just another means for governments to make revenue, a bunch of states don’t even have PI laws.

I'm not some big Police or Law Enforcement is awesome kind of guy, but the PI is used 99% of the time in the proper way from what I have experienced.

It at the very least is used as a protection of the public and/or of the person in question from themselves.

The PI arrests almost always were someone stumbling or out of control to the point they were a danger to themselves. The next scenario was the person out of control to the point they were either trying to harm other people or property.

Never seen anyone simply drunk and happy but still able to walk and talk get messed with for a PI.

The one caveat I can agree to for sure is the person that isn't that bad but once the cops question them or someone they are with they end up getting mouthy and their stupidity leads to them either getting threatened with a PI if they don't back off or a PI for being an arrogant dickhead.

I would see this most of the time with girls. The cops would come up to check on some girl basically passed out or with their head down and a drunk friend would try to insist that they were fine or they had it handled and the cops would get pissed that they wouldn't shut the fuck up.

I disagree on the need for any law to protect us from ourselves (and it really doesn’t do much there), and we already have assault/vandalism laws.

the chubby female cop in El Paso deals with a half dozen dudes that are obliterated every day and I haven’t seen her arrest a single one

Right, but the cops in Iowa City run into obliterated people every single night and don't arrest them. They arrest only the very worst.

Anyways, who cares.

I agree. I’m that guy. I literally flagged down a cop thinking it was a random car outside a bar in I.C. when I was a Jr in HS. He pointed me in the right direction and went about his evening.

Just saying the law allows a broad interpretation.

I didn't think these 2 cases were even possible, and especially if these people weren't causing a disturbance.

Were these in Iowa? Which towns? That is some messed up police enforcement.

Back to football, especially RB.

Saw a little bit of Mekhi Sargent on Last Chance U. Interesting player. If they could get a Butler like performance out of him without the injury RB has the potential to be really good with better depth than people think.

I already like Toren Young and IKM. I think Young seems to have better vision than Leshun Daniels did and doesn’t seem to lose much as far as speed. IKM showed flashes last season as well with a couple really nice runs, including the one where he fumbled vs Penn St. Hopefully he can be a pass catching threat out of the backfield as well.

I’m not sure we need to “replace” Wadley to be effective. I remember a few games where I thought Toren Young should have played more and possibly could have gotten some extra yardage where Wadleys size prevented that.

Also Brian’s offense will be way better than Greg Davis if the execution is there and the recruiting continues to build momentum.

I don’t know much about Young or IKM, but the coaches haven’t expressed any concern whatsoever about them. That’s a good sign

IKM looked really good when he got touches but it was so few it's still hard to say much about him yet. I assume they'll default to Young a lot because they tend to like bigger backs but IKM is one of the guys I'm excited to see more of.

Paulsens were listed as starting guards coming out of spring weren't they? New two deeps list R. Reynolds and Cole Banwart as starting guards going into camp.

Here are the pre spring 2 deeps, I don't think there are 2 deeps released after spring. Banwart was listed at backup Center and both Paulsens were listed at RG. Levi Paulsen was hurt in spring so Banwart moved into that spot.

Nate Stanley sounds about as fun as a box of rocks. Hasn’t set foot in downtown since his official visit.
