I can't remember when they changed it up but they did finally shake up the sub-state parings in the early 2000's and Mousecatine with mediocre team made it and then think they changed it back a few years later or have changed it to rotating.

I do think for something like 30+ years Mousecatine was always paired with the Iowa City schools in substate. In the late 80's as I have mentioned before Wiekamp's dad's team was great. I think they were something like 20-3 and all 3 losses were to Iowa City City High in the years they won the State Championship and then got to the finals and lost in overtime.

Then when I was in high school we were knocked out 4 years in a row by Iowa City West in the playoffs. 2 of those years Mousecatine was either ranked in the Top 10 or good enough to go to state, but every fucking time Iowa City West was sitting right there no matter what. They got to the finals twice and won State once during those 4 years.

Sounds like somebody's butt still hurts 20 years later.

It's ok, Doug. My butt still hurts too. We had a top 5 team and lost to Dusty Wadlington one year and East High in double OT the next. The best part about East High is that they had a white kid they called "Milky." For years I thought they called him that because he was the only white guy on the team. Turns out his name is actually Nate Mielke.

Joe getting doubled on every catch. 3 collapsing on him if it's a post touch. One 2nd quarter sequence sums it all up. He dumped it into the post from up top, dude missed from the low block, Joe came from the 3 point line for the putback. Next play he took it coast to coast for a nice dunk in transition. Next play he was gassed and just stood in the corner then post for about 30 seconds. West never left him, left a couple Mousecatine shooters wide open but they just passed it around for 30+ seconds until they could get it to Joe again. Patrick has been quiet.
