Our head coach is almost 70 and when referring to modern college offenses still references the “Run and Shoot”. And he was a stubborn mule already when he was younger.

It’s “NFL” so this is about as “modern” and “innovative” of an offense we were going to realistically get with Kirk in charge. I honestly don’t hate the idea of though.

we replaced an offense that was so complex that it took YEARS to master yet produced the worst results in the country with an offense that’s even more complex in an era where rosters turn over even more quickly.

Brian's offense wasn't complex, people say that as a way to mock Brian's excuse making. Is it possible that what Lester is trying to do is too verbose for a college offense, sure, but at least wait to see what happens when they have a competent QB.

Halo and math has made me a believer in things will always eventually even out. Iowa offense in particular has had some awful luck and runs at positions before. RB was a massive issue for 3-4 years and then got a lot better.

For whatever reasons, Iowa has had literally the worst overall collection of QB's in all of college football since 2019 season ended. Even with mediocre to shitty QB's Lester was immediately able to make them better.

If Iowa finally has a real QB and a good one, things could get better very quickly. RB's are good, TE's are good, WR's the best in years from the looks of it.

Whenever Iowa has a tough schedule, the seem to over-perform....

2021 - #20 schedule (10-4)
2019 - #13 schedule (10-3)
2018 - #27 schedule (9-4)
2017 - #10 schedule (8-5) *Stanley's first year
2009 - #32 schedule (11-2)
2008 - #30 schedule (9-4)

Anyways, Iowa has a tough as fuck schedule this year. @Iowa State, Penn State, Oregon, @Wisconsin, @Nebrantska. Would be fun to over-perform again this year with some good QB play and a pissed off Phil Parker defense looking for redemption.

This makes sense as he told Bacon to get the fuck out by the end of Spring ball, got rid of another and then brought in his own guy who he wanted to start from Day 1 but was over-ruled by Kirk.

Even after that, he still had the balls to throw out his guy he brought (Sullivan) after the season because he knew he wasn't good enough.

He's willing to make the choices and changes Kirk and Brian weren't willing to make.

I suspect it actually was complex in that they MADE it complex. Now, in no way was it sophisticated. That’s a totally different thing.

It’s like the Tony Rice-A-Roni “QB guru” nonsense where he makes someone taking a three yard drop with a pass to the sideline two yards downfield and makes it sound as complex as mastering String Theory or something.
