Nepotism is a cancer and it has metastasized throughout the athletic department 😞

I begrudge no Iowa fan for having nepotism PTSD at this point.
Agreed. It shouldn’t be an issue but given what the past 15 years have looked like the backlash is predicable and understandable.

The guy isn’t as smart as I thought if he used up all of his new hire goodwill before even coaching a game.

He will never see meaningful game minutes. I don’t give two shits who the 14th or 15th player on the team is. Especially when the head coach has a track record of keeping his rotations very tight. This ain’t Fran, you idiots.

The important thing when you finally get your dream job and millions and millions of dollars is to make sure that you get your mediocre son a $100k scholarship and spot on the roster at level of basketball no other human in the world would have given him a nickel for before you have coached your first game.

Players on the team and future recruits never cringe at the thought of having to act a certain way to a teammate because they are the coach's son and certainly love having that extra set of eyes in the locker room that will run to daddy the first chance he gets after hearing something he thinks might be bad. Not being able to be open and honest with a teammate is a wonderful thing.

If given the choice I’d prefer they didn’t, but just about every D1 coach with a son who is worth even a quarter of a shit in the sport they coach does this. Most of them are practice players or glorified managers who are good locker room kids because they care about helping the program and know they aren’t good enough to play. This is a problem for Iowa currently because of Brian and Patrick. Those were major exceptions to what is common throughout college athletics. This kid is nowhere near good enough to play and this is going to be ok

All Halo freaking out aside, it doesn't matter and I'm sure it likely will end up a net positive, but it's just super fucking annoying instantly another coach's son is on the roster. That's all.

Could be worse. At least we don't have a coach that put his trans son on scholarship.

This is bullshit. Wisconsin literally has Gard’s shitty kid on the roster right now. Izzo just has his kid on the roster for 5 years.
No it's not. He didn't have one major offer. He didn't even have recruiting profiles on the major sites. You don't need to white knight this.

If his Dad was not the coach, he would not be in the Big Ten right now.

Two points:

1) his dad IS the coach and it’s been pointed out that everyone does this. Most coaches kids aren’t as good as the walk ons

2) you can say this about most any walk on among the p5 teams. The end of the bench/walk ons suck

Don't disagree. Personally think it wasn't a smart move given all the recent issues there have been with coaches kids and Iowa. He wouldn't have gotten this slot had he not been the coaches kid.

I doubt he cares if fans think it wasn’t smart. I wouldn’t, it’s another year with my kid.

That PTL fantasy league was 14 years ago. I was fat, married, had just graduated from UChicago, living in a small basement apartment on Addison a few blocks from Lane Tech.

I was still in my 20s

and I’m still waiting on my women’s GTL shorts that i was supposed to get for winning.

What’s funny is that I now have a 14 year old basketball player that would wear them daily.
