Was Keno Davis ever on scholarship or ever play a minute in conference play?

There is no reason to GET PISSED! until he logs meaningful minutes undeservedly.
Fuck that.

How many times do we have to see a coach set himself up for failure due to this shit? Even letting them walk on is a danger. You're a couple injuries or a transfer away from telling your eldest born son to tear off that warmup and get in the game. It's bad enough as a walk-on, but now you put him on full scholarship and there is extra pressure to play him or you have to face cries and questions and think you have to justify his scholarship with playing time.

The other factor always at play when bringing your kid on the roster is you have to deal with mom as well.

That would be true if he was a PWO like everyone expected. If he's using a scholarship keeping them from adding a mid season transfer, or future recruit, I'd say the time is now.
Are rosters not limited to 15 either way now? You can have 15 players. They all can be walk ons or all be scholarships but you can’t go over 15.

Yes — the scholarship isn’t really the issue at this point. Everyone on the roster can get one. It’s more about whether fans will tolerate another coach’s son on the team, especially after all the drama with Fran and The Criminal.

At a minimum it's lazy. Sure guy 13 is going to do much but now you've wasted a scholarship for the next four years.
It’s not even about the numbers. It’s about having a player you are not able to coach objectively. A player who is not going to be judged strictly on merit. A player who is going to be treated differently than anyone else with the same skills and ability.

He’s not getting anywhere near the court. McCollum is not an idiot and there’s zero chance that he is unaware of the last 17 years.
I guarantee you he’s not going to be on scholarship for four years and play zero minutes

Nebrantska fans just went through this exact same thing. Lil' Hoiberg was never ever supposed to see the court, but there he was playing giant minutes for an underperforming team that fans wish they could flush down the toilet.

I don’t give a shit if he’s playing in a blowout.
So you went from “not getting anywhere near the court” to acknowledging he will play. Not that far from playing in a blowout to playing minutes in games that matter, which he will.

It is unbelievable how coaches just have to have their kids on the team…but people are getting way too caught up in the scholarship part. He’s occupying a spot on the roster. If he was a ‘walk on’ then they would just be using 14 scholarships instead of 15.

It basically comes down to whether he’s on the team or guys like Carter Kingsbury or Austin Ash are. If any of those players play any serious minutes at any point in the season your team is fucked anyway.

I’ll become concerned if I see anything related to redshirting him however.

Playing for a parent in college feels weird. Like it.goes against what college should be in the first place.

I'd feel better about that if we weren't fresh off a year where Kingsbury was playing series minutes in a lot of games

Lil Lick played because Lick couldn’t recruit and had an awful roster plus injuries. Connor and Patrick were irritating especially Patrick but they were both legit recruits. It appears McCollum isn’t a moron, can actually recruit a big ten level roster (Anti-Lick) and this kid is not a legit player (Anti-Fran). Unless there becomes a weird locker room dynamic because the kid doesn’t understand his role as a scrub, this will be fine and isn’t similar to either past scenario.

And Iowa basically sucked which was my point. And 99% of that roster is gone.

I don’t care how you slice it as a walk-on, scholarship, whether he ever plays a minute, etc. Its just fucking dumb.

Good point! BMC is a failure at Iowa depending on how his kid plays. Love the logic

Brad Calipari, Steven Izzo, Isaac Gard. There have been plenty of coaches kids through the years that suck, everyone knows they suck and they never play a meaningful minute. Most of them go into coaching after they are done. If it becomes a Sam Hoiberg situation where he plays double digits minutes as a freshman and eventually 20+ mins a game then there are bigger issues with McColllum.

Did those AD’s have the same issues with nepotism that the Iowa AD has had the past 20 years?

Great point. Big dick Beth has been here for just 2 of those years and fired Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz and canned Fran.

….and just hired a coach that ended up bringing on his son from Waukee with no other offers.

May end up being a nothing-burger. May not. Why even bother? Again, just dumb.

Wow, how can McCollum be so dumb!

Or, McCollum understands the value of having a scout team PG give himself up completely for you and the program.

I’m sure it’s the halo outrage dork squad that will be right on this.
