Cyclone Fanatic once had an explanation to that question from a couple years ago. Both Michigan and the Lions offered him without even interviewing him. And the Lions were going to pay him $68MM (again, without even interviewing him!!!!). And Michigan would have fired Harbaugh if Campbell agreed to go there. They didn't want him to interview first, because Ohio State fans would have made fun of them when Iowa State's coach turned them down.

It all really is unsustainable. The next round of TV contracts might be ugly, because linear cable should be just about dead and there won't be nearly as many bidders due to the streaming wars being over. The days of free for all spending are done in that realm.

Iowa Football home ticket for any game worth a shit are $199 or $179 face value plus tax and fees. That is fine as long as some sort of winning continues, but you hit a couple losing seasons and you will have thousands and thousands and thousands of empty seats.

Iowa State is going to be forced into a choice. They either have to drop football or they have to drop other sports and still find a way to cut the football budget. As someone mentioned before, their best choice would be to drop football and go all in on basketball. They can and should be another Creighton.

Seriously though, I have no idea how they continue this. If they especially hit a losing streak again, and they very likely will, that stadium is going to empty quick and their projected revenues will be in the gutter. If Campbell leaves, they are fucked this time. $25m shortfall will be optimistic.

I get that Campbell is a fucking bumpkin with a bunch of little kids he wants to raise in the same place, but he's going to get real tired of fighting for every single nickel and dime and having to meet weekly with Brent fucking Blum to go over NIL budgets. If he can get into a Big Ten or SEC school, he has to take it. I'm guessing the competition to get jobs in those 2 conferences is going to only intensify.

The $147 million deficit is likely optimistic on their part. Raising ticket prices isn't going to help that much.

I also assume that whatever they pay Iowa State will open a can of worms that every state school will say that they're entitled to the same amount of money which makes it even more expensive. I thought the MWC decided to do the full 20M. Same for the other leagues, assuming I read correctly.

Doesn't look they will do the full 20M. Their top revenue school is SD State at $91 million.

If the TV contract per school goes up 12M in the Big 10 this year, guessing Iowa will have to find some more funds as they spent almost all the revenue in 2024. Ticket prices go up?
