I honestly thought Gervase would play worse than he did, but Stone proved to be a difference maker out there and better be the starter come fall.
Gervase was on the same progression plan as Snyder. He was juked and caught over-pursuing and out of position so many times early last year but towards the end of the season had really improved.

I'm excited to see if this hybrid safety/linebacker position materializes because I think there's a lot of guys on the team who could fit that role well.

Nifty... Lol

At receiver, there was a surprise in sophomore Brandon Smith (at 6-3 and a robust 219 pounds) listed atop the depth chart, with University of Sioux Falls transfer Kyle Groeneweg (5-10, 186) as his backup; Ferentz called him "nifty."

Smith at 6'3" 219 has me rather hard.

The advantage of purchasing a season ticket is an $80 savings over the cost of single game tickets. Season ticket holders earn ticketing priority over the general public for single game, special events, and postseason contests. Individual game ticket prices include $50 for Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa, $65 for Maryland and Northwestern, $75 for Nebrantska, and $95 for Iowa State and Wisconsin. The average single game cost for a season ticket holder is $59.29.

The cost difference between single game tickets Kinnick and Jack Trice is laughable. It doesn't need to be that way either

This was such a weird controversy too. Hesse is a senior who has started 3 years and
has developed into a pretty good player. Of course they're not demoting him. AJ is going to play a ton, especially on passing downs.

The two deeps listed in this thread yesterday identify Parker as a junior.
Sigh.
You'd have a point if Epi isn't listed as a sophomore right underneath him

Let's move the Ahmad Wagner talk over here now that he has done this presser and we know that Iowa Football has been talking to him.

Sorry dude my existence doesn't orbit around what year each guy on the Iowa 2 deeps is.

Parker is a senior. Anyone who spends as much time as you on a Hawkeye message board should know that.

My sigh was because you’re dumb. Get it?
Sorry dude, my existence doesn't orbit around what year every guy on the two-deeps is

It was more that you tried to play gotcha with me without actually knowing what you were talking about

I wasn't trying to play got you. When you said he was a senior I remembered looking at the 2 Deep's yesterday and he was listed as a junior .I remember being bummed thinking he's going to sit behind Hesse for 2 more years

It's not the first time someone has read too much into the information given on the two-deeps and certainly won't be the last.

None of our top 8-9 DL are sitting behind anyone. They all play and they are all important. It's a complete non-issue.

This play?

I have had too much Tito’s, but I still think we need to retire the Wisky bullshit for a new look.
Beating the living shit out of them and getting to relive it over and over as the pundits listed it as the reason they wouldn’t make the CFP was an all-timer.

Dochterman after writing this =

So dumb. Why do this? He's a talented guy but chances of him making an impact are pretty slim. But now fans have it all set up perfectly. PUT WAGNER IN!!!!! WHY WON'T THEY PLAY HIM??????

He's playing catch up now but Wagner would have be the best receiving prospect on the team by a mile if he had decided to play football out of high school and it'd be really cool if they found a spot for him on the team, especially given that a guy who averaged like 200 yards a year playing D2 is on the current two deep

I don’t think he will be some amazing player, but he has other advantages like familiarity with school/academics and the mechanics of watching film/time management that could help him learn more quickly than an incoming freshman.

Shit just put him on extra point/field goal defense and see if he can get up and block some kicks.

We're not talking about a fatso coming out of retirement or an undersized HS kid making the move to CFB. He's a well-conditioned B10 athlete who has already settled into school (as Thomas mentioned above). If he makes the move to football, I think he has a chance to contribute. It ain't brain surgery.

If I'm being honest I know he liked football and sports generally (the story of his one day writing for sports illustrated is great) I just really wanted to point out that the route tree looked like his butthole drawing

It's way more complex than you might think. He just doesn't have to learn formations and plays.

We're just trying to say that he has a chance no matter how diminutive.

Right, he has to learn how to read a defense, hand placement, footwork, etc. But he is also a good athlete in good academic standing on a team with little depth at the position. Give him a shot, we just shouldn’t expect much.

Agree. That's what I'm trying to say. Lots of technique to learn for a guy with one year of HS football. Hopefully he can help, but let's keep the ol expectations reasonable.

They're not always great at using guys situationally but even if he was just a dude you sent deep a few times a game or threw jump balls to in the endzone there could be some value there.

But anyway yeah expecting him to be a great Big Ten receiver after barley playing football would be silly, but it's also not completely crazy to have some optimism about his chances to make it work given how he performed when he did play and his obvious physical ability. I'd definitely be (cautiously) excited if they could convince him to stay at Iowa. It's too bad they couldn't have gotten him earlier, but, then again, if he'd decided to play football right away he probably wouldn't have gone to Iowa.

I have zero expectations but I'll allow for the possibility that they can coach him up enough to be a net positive for the team. Honestly, of all the positions - I think WR is among the easiest. His size and strength could help cover up other deficiencies like route running.

And is it really so crazy to think that a grown-ass man that is fast and 6' 6" could maybe get open and snag a few passes over some 5' 9" freshman playing for UNI or Northern Illinois? It's not like he's going to match-up against Patrick Peterson.

Pretty much no one is saying he can't play. The reaction here was a backlash to the collective shorts creaming from idiots who think he could be Calvin Johnson.
