Given that an FCS school moving to FBS suddenly has a $50m NIL and is looking to make a splash, I would say that there is a fuckton of money out there from idiot rich fans. Iowa just happens to not have multiple sugar daddies like other schools. They also aren't (yet) forcing Kirk to give half of his salary to pay for them.

It's a totally, even remotely, fair system that is so great for the sport and absolutely sustainable.

Correct. Because coaches are telling him that they need to fill their spots and he has to commit/not play in the playoff to be their guy. He said he would much rather stick around and remain on the team, but that decision was not his to make.
