I feel like you could make a pretty good argument that any team ranked in the top 8 could be there. I don’t see much argument after that

At some point the adults have to win out and tell the children to fuck off. If anyone is bitching over the #7 team, go fuck yourself.

Lol

This didn’t work when it was the third team getting left out

It’s not working with the fifth team getting left out

I’m sure it will be totally better when it’s the 7th....

I’m sure That’s when everyone will just agree to say “fuck them”
Let's expand it to 16 or 32 since someone might cry about who the #7 or #9 team is.

Fuck off.

That’s not the point

You’re trying to say that this one simple line pure drawing will be the place that the “adults” magically win....when in no other scenario has that remotely worked.

Look, in the guy that DGAF about going to a playoff. I’m the guy that DGAF about expanding past 4

I’m simply pointing out the flaws in you’re incredibly self-assured logic

Wish him the best. He only basically played one season yet had nothing left to prove at the college level.

definitely hurts for next year, but good for him. also, he went from being not very good to being an All-American in one year so I feel like Phil knows how to develop DBs. Plus, having a first-round CB pick will be great for recruiting.

I’m not sure what happened with Rugamba this year, but I’m still bullish on him because he was really good in November of his freshman year and it’s not common to have a fluke lockdown as a CB.

Official announcement

Happy for him. Would have been a major risk on his part to come back. Anyone projected that high must take the money and run as that league will churn and burn you as quickly as they want so you got to get paid while the opportunity presents itself.

Hankins should be able to step into that lead CB position next season. If Rugumba or Ojemudia can’t step up next year there are some talented freshmen coming in that could take over a starting role. The staff clearly doesn’t have a problem playing going guys at cornerback.

It sucks but it's absolutely the right decision for him and we'll be fine. They've recruited pretty well at DB recently, Hankins showed a lot of promise, and it's way too early to give up on Rugumba. Jackson didn't look like he was going to be anything all that special before this year, and it's been awhile since we didn't have at least one really good corner. Phil is very good at his job.

I think Rugumba got full of himself after the Michigan game, was stupid in the off-season, got suspended and then was hurt all year.

Won't be surprised if he gets motivated and is our best corner next year.

I will say, if you rewatch the Michigan game he wasn't actually that great aside from the INT. He got burned deep multiple times only for Speight to miss a wide open receiver. But it was his first start and Michigan had good receivers so i dont think it's a huge deal. The staff was obviously high on him and he was playing ahead of jackson as a freshman. He can get a lot better. Most guys aren't Des King and don't just show up on campus as a lock down corner. Expectations for him going into this year were just too high.

remember when Kirk insisted all spring/summer that it was wide open between Stanley and Wiegers? good times.
Ended up being pretty smart of him. Sucks for Wiegers, but that would have been ugly if they had Stanley and then a true freshman or Boyle.
also worked out well to be able to keep Mansell's redshirt as it sounds like they are high on him so you have a junior Stanley and then would have at least two years of Mansell/Petras.

other than a true gimmick/style change like when Florida rotated Leak/Tebow, I'm not sure it's ever actually worked for QBs to share snaps.

Assuming that he didn't get his degree until December, transferring before the season would have been pointless for him. Would have just wasted a year of eligibility for no good reason.

he could have gone FCS this fall and played right away.

He could have, but he probably didn't want to. He's better than FCS.

Creighton has done well at Eastern Michigan but they were talking about dropping the program before he went there.

Any chance Iowa restricts him from transferring to Drake?

Is the WR transfer from New Mexico dead?

Haven’t heard anything on him since his transfer.

He was a former two star who last played for a triple option team and barely got to practice before the season started, why are so many of y'all shocked that he didn't make an immediate impact?

I don’t think he made any impact. With a grad transfer, don’t both the athlete and the school assume a rather immediate impact?

16 is fucking stupid.

Why stop there? 32? 64?

4 is perfect, preserves the regular season - all games matter. just need to have non-retards deciding the 4.
It doesn't. That's one of the main problems with 4.

I should have said “all games matter unless you are Alabama, then you are in no matter what”.

They were taking a flier because they're desperate for bodies at WR, and they didn't realize his arrival was going to get delayed so long while they waited to get a transcript or whatever happened. I doubt the plan was for him to miss basically the entire off-season. Once the season starts its hard to work a totally new guy in, especially one who probably only had to run like two routes at his past school. He's also not a normal grad transfer because he still has eligibility left, so it's not as big a deal

Thanks Bob. Always enjoy your analysis.

Will be nice when tbe day comes when Iowa isn’t “desperate” and taking “fliers” on receivers.
